How to prevent SIBO Recurrence

How to prevent SIBO from coming back. Eliminating SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) from your body is a wonderful feeling. If you're like me, you dealt with years of constantly being gassy, your stomach feeling and looking (which is worse) bloated, and other symptoms. You certainly don't want a repeat of that. Therefore, preventing a recurrence of SIBO is just as important as treating it (in my opinion). This video outlines what I did AFTER successfully clearing SIBO with antimicrobials, and what I continue to do to prevent its recurrence.

WHO I AM: My name is Dan Ricciardi. I'm a Functional Medicine Practitioner, Doctor of Pharmacy, fitness enthusiast, and former SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) sufferer.

Note: I mentioned I'd discuss my diet in this video, but did not say much about it. I don't follow any specific diet, but just try to eat foods that only have one-ingredient in them (whole foods). I also only eat full meals spaced out 4 hours apart. Please leave a comment below if you have any more specific questions on specific foods or diet.

Thank you for such good quality content! Just curious your thoughts on getting some compounds from diet rather than supplements, like cooking with lots of garlic or drinking ginger tea throughout the day?

How do we take your SIBO supplements? Can you share with us when and dosage of each supplement? Thanks dr.

Thanks for the information. I have treated sibo six times and it still comes back. Have you seen any research on neural retraining for sibo? I think stress might be a contributing factor to why I am not getting better and am wondering if this would help.

I might be dealing with SIBO, just haven't got it diagnosed at the moment, but so many other possible reasons for my various little-to-medium health issues were dismissed with other tests and SIBO test will be done next week. But thinking it won't hurt to anyone even without any health issues to incorporate the eating hygiene. Eating when stress-free or chewing well when you don't have time can be challenging to some of us, do you think blending food and popping in a digestive enzymes pill can achieve the same result as if you chewed well and you were stress-free?

Thank you for sharing this. I have a question about the digestive enzymes: if one is taking them, does it mean that one's SIBO is not treated properly? I wonder, if after SIBO (I am going through relapse now) is considered as "treated", shouldn't digestive enzymes be produced by our bodies naturally? Or - perhaps - if somebody had SIBO once, does it mean the personal & natural production of digestive enzymes is screwed for ever?
THank you in advance.

Hello, Dr. Daniel, I've been dealing for 2 years with some symptoms. It all began after a food poisoning (It was a REALLY BAD one, I had to take two antibiotics - Cipro and Metronidazole, it lasted almost 3 weeks). After that, I started to have daily headaches, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, burps, joint pain, back pain. Do you think it might be sibo? I haven't done the breath test yet.

This may be a stupid question, but can the digestive enzymes go through the gut lining when someone has a leaky gut? For example can (exces) protease enzym end up in the bloodstream and bodily tissues and cause collagen damage?

Hello, any reason why you choose to take prokinetics with meal rather than at bedtime ?
