Y'know, I thought you meant breeding two types of goldfish, and not just keeping them in the same enclosure... If it was about breeding, I know you can breed different species of Platy fish together (and they'll even attempt to mate with Mollies and, on rare occasion, Guppies, but nothing truly comes from that) and get some unique colorations with them.

Steve looks much more like a Marilyn to me. The lipstick, the beauty mark. Definitely looks like Marilyn Monroe.

I've would've never had the thought I'd ever want a goldfish that looked like a chicken until I saw Chicken Steve. All these goldfish are freaking beautiful. Guy does an amazing job with these. Very healthy and beautiful!

If those goldfish find themselves attractive and love each other and make little goldfish babies then I'm happy for them.

What happens if these different kinds of fancy goldfish interbreed when they are together? Do people do that to get neat hybrids or is it better to only breed for "purebreds"? Is there health benefits/concerns?

Typically you can keep slim-bodied breeds (wakin, common/hibuna, comet, shubunkin) with faster, egg-bellied "fancy" breeds. Thai orandas are one of the largest breeds at 16". As long as their wen (fleshy headgrowth) is short, they can be kept with fast breeds. A few other potential candidates to keep with fast breeds are Tamasabas, Fantails, Jikins and poor quality (small hump) Ryukins :)

I put every type of Goldfish together in a large low pond style acrylic tank. Even baby koi, fantail, (non push over black moor), Shubunkin, comet, Oranda, Ryukin. Normally wouldn't keep a black moor in there but my current one is alittle beast and will fight for his food. Koi babies packed up and do their thing in a click, fantails are 24/7 eating algae off of everything and are Very fast to get to good. Ryukins and Koi can be alittle agro during feeding but once that's over it all seems to work.

I had a silver goldfish named Rocket and we had two large standard goldfish. They all had the same build (though Rocket had a smaller more speedy build) but the two standards picked on him. Rocket outlived them out of what I like to think of as spite.

I remember a few years ago that I had both Guppies and Platys in the same tank and since guppies are skinny bodied (and were way too many) all the Platys died from starvation beacause they weren't getting any food... We had to give away some of the guppies for the other breeds to survive
