The Enola Gay was the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.

Such a sad, poignant song.
A difficult subject in such an amazing, beautiful song

OMD are still banging this out live 40 years later, and it sounds even better. Andy McCluskey is a force of nature.

As several people have mentioned, Enola Gay was the plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima, but the bomb itself was called Little Boy and this is also referenced in the lyrics

I would also recommend 'Joan of Arc' or 'Joan Of Arc - Maid Of Orleans', the latter being my favourite of the 2 tracks! But both were great songs in their own rights and still are too! Hope you listen to them and enjoy too.

We just called them OMD, since Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark is so long. This 1980 song was one of the first I heard by them, and they entered the charts at the same time as two other major synth pop bands, Depeche Mode and Human League, did, so I always associate the three together. In my mind, this song goes with Depeche Mode's 1981 "New Life."

OMD has like 15 amazing songs! This is a band that should be praised for their sound! Enola Gay dropped the ABomb. They said it’s extremely hard to play is song in Japan because all the people are dancing and it’s an extremely sad song lyrically

OMD are an amazing band. You need to listen to Maid of Orleans, Souvenir, Electricity, Messages, Joan of Arc, Talking Loud and Clear, the list goes on. Top music

"Electricity" is still my favorite by them. OMD are among the pioneers of early Synth-pop.

I was just a kid when i first dance to this song in a disco.
Still love it after 40 years 🖤
This song and "Electricity" are my favorite tunes from this band.
Cheers from Greece! 🍺

Enola Gay was the name of the plane, named for the pilot's mother. The bomb they dropped was called "Little Boy". Three days later Nagasaki was bombed...they named that bomb "Fat Man". The 'kiss' they referred to in the song I suspect was the nuclear fallout...aka radiation burn/poisoning that anyone in the vicinity of the blast suffered if they didn't immediately die in the initial blast. Such a happy sounding tune, very dark subject matter. A lot of 80's music was about the potential of WW3 happening in our lifetime. Thanx for playing that song...never gets old!

The keyboards on this song are epic. There's that wonderful riff that is repeated throughout the song but underneath that is a keyboard line that repeats a slightly ominous sequence of notes, it produces a tension that says this is not just some happy disco song. Such an interesting song, both lyrically and musically.

Yesss... OMD! one of my fav's. Only they could take a serious subject, the dropping of the atomic bomb, and hide it in a pop theme. Fantastic. Thanks!

If you are listening carefully to the lyrics, you will hear Andy describing the plane that carried the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki.

Hence the name of the song, is the name of the airplane Enola Gay.

Although the song is quite upbeat, it's telling a very sombre story.

OMD is soooo good! Thank you for this! "Dreaming", "(Forever) Live and Die", "So In Love" and "Joan of Arc" are some of my favorites of their songs.

You can call ‘em OMD! Most of us did. FYI, the Enola Gay, a B-29 bomber was known for dropping “Little Boy”, the first atomic bomb used in warfare on Hiroshima, Japan. It was named after the pilot’s (Col. Paul Tibbets) mother, Enola Gay Tibbets.
