When Butter was first rescued, he was just a teeny, frail baby opossum. Watch him grow up to be the biggest snuggle bug! He covers his mom's face in kisses, even while she sleeps ❤️

Opossum, the ultimate scavenger, are extremely important to the ecosystem. They'll eat anything and everything and every pest you can think of. Such as snails, slugs, ticks, spiders, snakes, roaches, beetles, rodents, dead animals, etc...They are also immune to snake venom. Incredible animal!

The crazy thing is when a possum is domesticated they actually go through both a physical and mental change and are different from wild ones, they actually really become physically fluffier and cuter. No joke.

Mom: I’m planning to eventually release Butter into the wild.
Butter: I’m planning to ruin that plan.

I have been feeding an opossum for about 6months now and he loves grapes apples and bananas. He usually arrives for chow about 11 o’clock every evening.I enjoy taking care of him even through the winter months and hope he will live a long happy live.

"He's going to live a happy life as long as he lives." That is all that matters. Thank You for Saving this BLESSING and giving him the love and happiness he deserves to have.

When I was a little girl living in the country with our house on the edge of a forest, there was a newly built highway running near the edge of our property. Inevitably there were wild animals run over by cars. Therefore there were frequently baby animals that had been orphaned that would wander up in our yard. As an animal loving child, I felt compelled to help any animal that looked like it needed help. During the years that I lived there, there were TWO different instances that I found baby possums & became their mother! They each bonded with me like this, & my mom & dad let me take care of them. I also intended to let them be rehabbed then go back to the wild, but no - neither one of them wanted anything to do with living outside! I loved my possum babies! And they loved me! I am 61 years old now & I still love animals & help them any time I see them in need. It was wonderful to see someone being a possum mommy like I once was!! God bless!!!

Stephanie: Butter, you can go where ever you want.
Butter: Yes, so lets go home.

Opossums may live up to 8 - 10 years in captivity. This woman loves this animal. She did save him. He would have perished without her intervention. Whatever your opinion is, so be it. She loves him and he obviously loves her. Little cuddle bug. Thank you for saving him. ☺❤

Butter’s idea of freedom is being with the human he loves.

He’s adorably homely. PSA: possums eat thousands of ticks a year as they’re very fastidious about grooming. Be kind to them

I think Butter is just fine with his non wild life. He looked so happy when he pulled his blanket into his little house. I love him!

Watching Butter's sweetness made me melt. He is so darn adorable. I just loved they way he hugged his mom's feet with such affection. I think it would be nice if the mom could adopt another domesticated possum so Butter has a same-species friend to be a possum with. However, that might not be essential. Having a life filled with love is the most important thing.

My dad found a baby possum in one of his tool drawers once. He fed it and took care of it without mom knowing, and now it's his best friend. Follows him like it’s a puppy.

Probably after losing his mom and siblings he doesn't want to lose anyone else. So special. God bless you both

I was homeless for 9 years, and after that long the outside creatures start to recognize you. Well, possums started getting comfortable with me and playing peek-a-boo when I'd go through alleys. They'd also wait for me and pop out when I'd come walking down my normal path.

Her: he’s going back to the wild

Butter: hard pass. Let’s slub.

Butter’s slubbing is so cute. Like cats, it's how they scent mark you and like she mentioned show affection. It's just the super silly and sweet way of saying “You’re mine and I love you.” Good on you for letting them choose, I'm sure he would've enjoyed being wild, but to him his home is with the woman who saved him and that's the sweetest thing in the world. I'd love it if she could make him an ambassador or education animal, teach kiddos how good possums actually are.

daughter had a male possum, raised since bottle fed. It turned out so pretty, so soft, full thick fur. It was so sweet and loving, completely bonded with the daughter. She named him Bucky and he lived for 4 years. Little longer than expected but not as long as we would have wished.
