Turning Red Deleted Scenes And Alternate Ending

Every Pixar animated movie goes through an incredibly collaborative process to get it into tip-top shape. Turning Red by Domee Shi went through eight major rewrites and over twenty different titles. Just like Mei was ‘going through changes’ so was her panda. It had a couple of different powers and even some different design elements. There was an alternate ending where to giant pandas ripped up all of Toronto. There was a draft of the movie where the whole plot was Mei and her mom trying to raise money, exploiting Mei’s panda power to pay back a very powerful gangster. You can see why that wasn’t a good idea for a Pixar movie, huh? Another draft had Mei meeting all of her super quirky extended family at her Grandma’s funeral. A long-standing family feud between Mei and her mom and her aunt and Cousins would have been present but it was just too plot-heavy! The last scene in the movie to be cut can be spotted in the trailer and the documentary, Embrace the Panda: Making Turning Red. One quirky Canadian joke didn’t make the cut (luckily the Timbits still did). Some scrapped notebook pages are on display. Mei admits to her sudden love for 4*Town coming out of nowhere. She and her mom had a slightly alternate moment than we got in the movie, crying as they watched TV together. At one point Mei had a little sibling. There’s a lot of controversy surrounding Pixar and Disney right now over what’s happening down in Florida which means there may be cut scenes involving Priya we never got to see. There are also a couple of mistakes that were spotted in the movie, no doubt by Torontonians who take public transit.

The relationship and pressure between Ming and Grandma needed more story time.

All of their hard work truly paid off. The storyline was perfect (especially her friendship dynamic and love for 4 town 💜) I wouldn’t change a thing! And I’m glad they didn’t go with ruining Toronto 😅

I like how one of the name options was girl in red, because that's actually the name of a musical artist. She writes a lot of LGBTQ+ positive songs, though not all are super appropriate. (Anyone younger who is interested, maybe check out "girls" and "we fell in love in october", both are great girl in red songs!!)

I would love to bring back the godzilla style kaiju battle between Mei and Ming. That would have been a far more epic final battle than what we ultimately got. I hope that if we ever get Turning Red 2, that we will see a kaiju sized Mei-Mei.

One thing I would love to see come back is the Fire Fox form. Having a small super sayan red panda fight a giant red panda would make the ending way more better than it already was! Not only that, but the fire fur would make a burn mark on Ming’s giant red panda head when Mei flies head first into her mom. This would all tie back to Ming’s mom getting a scar above her eye, how that separated the relationship between them, and how history is repeating itself with Ming and Mei, but in a different manner, since she accepted the panda in Mei, together.

I really hope turning red gets a tv show like tangled did. They could show more story, and possibly a priya scene with the unnamed goth girl?

i think i would have brought back the sister but do it like a toddler have her be a bit scared of the panda to make her love for her friends even bigger since they don't see her as a monster like her sister does and over time after she decides to keep her panda and during the scene with the paying for repairs the the sky dome have the sister give her a hug and play with her tail a bit or asked to be picked up and she could be added to the ritual singing some nursery rhyme she knows to sing from her heart then when the panda comes out she stops singing and hides behind her moms legs who then gently holds her head but keeps her main focus on singing and watching may after a glance at the younger daughter

There was supposed to be mei x Miriam in it. That really one of the things I wish they were able to add more of. Other than that it is a great movie and i have watched it like 20 times.
