so glad that rivals is getting some love, that game is absolutely sick and deserves the attention 100x more than ssbu.
it handles very similar to melee, but it has some of its own unique mechanics, like hitfall:
fastfalling during hitlag, you're airborne and your vertical velocity is 0 during the freeze frames, so it allows you to fastfall, absolutely amazing for diverse and creative combos, which leads to the game having this uniquely offensive and aggressive neutral game.
it also has "gatling combos", which is their unique version of DACUS that only works if the dash attack lands, you can cancel all of your dash attack's ending lag by inputting a strong attack during hitlag
it also doesn't have shields, but it has a buffed version of powershield/parry, where the parry-ist gets 0 lag, and the other player turns gray and goes in slow motion for about one second to land whatever counterhit or riposte you'd like to hit (for some reason in ssbu you can't really land much from a successful powershield, I'm glad RoA buffed it a lot)

there's also not really grabs besides a few command grabs, so all RTC's are light attack strings, it's usually better risk/reward to go for spicy reads, it makes the game VERY fun to watch and even more fun to play once you get into the "rivals mindset"
