It hasn’t been 10 years but my whole class loved our valedictorian so I feel like we all keep up with her more than we keep up with each other. She went to Harvard and after graduation joined the Chemical Biology PhD program under their medical school. The bulk of her research is around developing curative strategies for sickle cell which is something that is prominent in her family. She also co-founded a diversity workshop series when she was in undergrad that she still heads which seems to be a common thing among my classmates (I can actively think of 12 people including myself that started some kind of diversity awareness or inclusivity based group or club or workshop at our PWIs). I guess that’s what happens when you go from a high school where you’re the majority to one where you’re a severe minority 😅 you just get fed up. Anyway, it’s been like over a year since I last talked to her but I’m really proud of her

The one valedictorian from one of the schools I went to is in prison for life for murder because he thought he could get away with it

My brother was never a valedictorian but his journey is amazing. Came from a third world country coming in here as a senior, work his ass off to get 2200+ on the SAT and did tons of community service and was outside the top 10%. Got a full ride at UTD, won an award NSF graduate research fellowship, got a full ride to standford for his PHD, taught at MIT, and now training to be an acting CEO here in the US for a company.

In my country we have a college enter an r exam like SAT and when my brother took that test he applied for Harvard. He done the test and he was 1 point away from getting in. Sadly essays and stuff there don’t work and it literally made me devastated. He asked my dad to try and ask a teacher to give him that 1 point by my dad refused anddd he didn’t go to Harvard

He was also studying something he didn’t like, engineering. My dads favorite major at the time. My brother is now working normal jobs even tho he’s knows like 9 languages
