Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV review - CarBuyer

All-American off-road firm Jeep is part of the larger Chrysler organisation, which has been through a turbulent few years. First the company parted ways with Mercedes-Benz, then the recession hit the firm harder than most, but now Chrysler's future is looking a lot more stable under Fiat ownership. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is something of a transition model, as it uses a platform that's shared with the Mercedes-Benz M-Class, but it's powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel that was developed by Fiat.

Anyone in markets outside the US, you do understand that it is your country's import duties (and EU or other agreements) that make US cars so much more costly there than in the US.

The unfortunate thing is, if this had a Mercedes-Benz badge, everyone would love it. Even though underneath this actually is heavily related to the Mercedes M-class.

I had a 06 Grand Cherokee also, and well yes it had many problems but I traded it in a year and a half ago for a 2011 and it's been perfect.

just remember that the jeep grand cherokee literally started the SUV market. My personal favorite year was the 1999-2004 overland with h.o. it was luxurious and fast with 0-60's as low as 6.3 seconds. It wasn't too terribly unreliable and was on par with the bmw x5. Also, this year the new grand cherokee was delayed because chrysler wanted to make sure that the new pentastar 3.6 v6 would be reliable...

It just depends on which one you get. If you get the one with the 5.7L HEMI V8 it is VERY, VERY reliable. It's made the top 10 best engines list more times than any other Engine. The 3.6L V6 is a brand new engine, but I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Best car reviewer on-line, but when stating that it's opposition is more fuel efficient lets have some figures to let us know by how much, Fill the tank up at the start then at the end of testing fill it back up to give us an idea how much juice it used. The manufactures figures are not exactly done in real world conditions. Great review, as always Matt

The Grand Wagoneer, which the precursor to the Grand Cherokee, is considered by most to be the first luxury off roader. It came out in 1963, seven years before the Range Rover.

OH, so untrue, Jeep's are one of the best SUV's out there with an outstanding 4WD-system. I'm sorry, but sometimes there's people who gets a "bad product", no matter business and it was your dad!

Bought the top of the range V6 Overland, 2012. First thing that failed - both cylinder heads to be replaced. (This is common fault throughout the V6 engines I'm told, so whatever the model from Chrysler beware).Only done 20, 000Kms.Then the air suspension sprung a leak. Then I have had the vehicle back to the dealership 8 times to stop a rattle in the roof. I still have the rattle. Chrysler Canada are most unhelpful. There is a clunking sound on occasions from the transmission. Many problems

naope, its mentioned in the video AND According to the transportation curator at the Henry Ford Museum, Robert Casey, the Jeep Cherokee (XJ) was the first true sport utility vehicle in the modern understanding of the term. Marketed to urban families as a substitute for a traditional car (and especially station wagons, which were still fairly popular at the time), the Chrerokee had four-wheel drive in a more manageable size.

(compared to the full-size Wagoneer), as well as a plush interior resembling a station wagon. With the introduction of more luxurious models and a much more powerful 4-liter engine, sales of the Cherokee increased even higher as the price of gasoline fell, and the term "sport utility vehicle" began to be used in the national press for the first time. "The advent and immediate success of AMC/Jeep's compact four-door Cherokee turned the truck industry upside down
