Thieves have a special physical key that unlocks most doors. Once inside the car, they connect their computer to the OBD which is usually under the stiring wheel. In 2 minutes, they can access the car computer and reprogram the key with a new one. This new key now can starts the car and off they go. So protecting your key will not work. Best protection? Install an OBD lock, put a Motion Alarm Dash Cam in your car with high DB (some have an alarm to be used inside your home to alert you), use a wheel lock. You can also, when using your car outside your parking lot, disable your key so that it does not emit any signal (each key is different, ask your dealer). This also saves the battery inside your key.

I've had this steering wheel to brake pedal lock since I was in high school. And up to this day, I still use it. somebody tried to steal my Silverado one time, but they only jacked up the keyhole lock mechanism on the door. They most likely saw my steering wheel to brake pedal lock and moved on to an easier target.

Great video, thanks for sharing these tips. I just got myself a 2022 Hyundai Kona and wanted to be sure mine wasn’t on the list. It didn’t make the list. I guess thieves aren’t too interested in Hyundai. That’s more than okay with me.

Yes, first, do protect your keys in a metal box or Faraday box when you arrive home or on a visit to a friend. Put them in your fridge. Do not leave them in your pocket. Also use an OBD lock so that thieves can not access the car computer. With the steering wheel lock, you will discourage thieves who will look for an easier car to steal. If you use a tracking device installed in the car, some thieves will leave the car parked for a day to be sure that it is not found by these devices.

The vehicles most commonly stolen correlates closely to the vehicles most commonly owned. Duh.

Car theft has always been with us. As a teenager (back last century) I used to place 3 toggle switches that cut various electronics off. The switches also had to be in a specific arrangement (like 2 up 1 down), the ON/OFF was removed from any printing. Well, nothing was ever stolen.

Dodge Chargers should have been on the list.

My Lexus RX 350 F-sport got stolen last week. 😭 They tagged team and took my car over night. Gone in 20 mins. One thief came at 8pm to unlock the car. 3 came in the middle of night and took the car. Very disappointed on how easy it was for them to take the car. Cops told me that they could have Apple air tagged my car 😓 I’m however suspicious of the dealership as they called to buy back my car a week before. I declined and they called me after to sell me a new RX 🤔 A strategy to meet their bottom line during the chip shortage? Possibly 🤔 Honestly nothing will protect your car. The key is a joke! Corrupt people at the dealers can easily duplicate your key and sell it. The fob key bag/box 👎🏼 They had a tool they use to put in the key hole. Takes 30secs to open the door. Cameras 👎🏼 I had 2 cameras on them and a bright LED driveway light. Footage was clear as day. They still took my car. You can try to stop them the first time, but they’ll come again. They track your car. They know where your car is especially with all these new gadgets in new cars. Best is to have premium auto insurance 👍🏼

The best thing for many people to do is lock the car door. I have seen tons of ring videos where people have left their car door unlocked which makes it easier for them to get in. These lowlives are just walking through neighborhoods, checking for unlock doors.

Good summary. Using RFID blocking boxes to store car key fob can help.

I have an alarm with vehicle tracking, a club on the steering wheel and I turn my wheels when I park. At home, the driveway is well lit with security cameras. My bedroom is just a few feet away and my German Shepherd Dog is a very light sleeper with a deep menacing bark. But, if a thief is determined to steal my Toyota Tundra, Toyota Corolla or Dodge Grand Caravan, I'm sure they will find a way. Hopefully they'll just move on to an easier target. So far, so good. Knock on wood. Nice to see that none of my vehicles are in the Top 10 most stolen.
