Thanks for making this video. Some manufacturers, such as Red Sea, recommend using the water right away after mixing for best alkalinity and other parameters. Is there any evidence that parameters change in mixed water while it’s being stored? Keep the great videos coming!

Can u use purified water or distilled for your reef tank?

I use the mixing and circulation pump with a length of tubing as a coil in the bucket with a on off twist valve approx 2 feet from the end. Then can easily pump the replacement water gently and in a regulated way back into the tank. Easy.

Question is when storing your salt in the container for future use does it needs a pump to keep circulating the water..

So what about filling the tank for the first time. Say I need X amount of buckets to fill it. Do I mix each bucket with the noted amount of salt? Wouldn't that make my salinity really high once they are all in the tank?

I mix 2 barrels of water, one is 40g the other 20. I have a pump in the larger on that circulates the water, it's a very strong current, much more than needed. In the smaller barrel I have 2 small powerheads to move the water. I add the water first then the salt, sometimes during filling I'll add some of the salt because the high pressure from the hose I fill with is very strong, hoping to give mixing an extra boost. I have left these running for several days in the past but still have salt at the bottom when I do the water change. I have tried everything, I stir it up before pumping it into the tank too, but every time, that last bit of water comes out of the hose cloudy, like all the salt was settled at the bottom. No matter what I do, it seems like the salt is always settling at the bottom.


Any tips on how to fix this issue?
