This is interesting to me because I live in Japan and use Japanese hand saws. The handle in virtually all cases is a short pole and—as far as I know—there are no high-end models.

I work at Joann Fabric and Crafts and I tell customers the same thing about our scissors. Their all pretty much the same. As long as you only use them for fabric they will stay sharp longest but the cheap to expensive will eventually get dull just from use. The more expensive ones have the fancy grip (or just fancy name brand). Some are NICE. Others...not so much.

My grandpa was a woodworker, and instead of buying my brother and I high quality hand saws he bought cheap saws with removable handles and walked us through making a high quality handle for them. One of my favorite memories in his shop, actually.

yup. you got it... the right tools is the differanse between a good day at work, or an ok day. A great result, or not so mutch. delivere in time, or som other time. It goes for all kindes of tools. The job can be don, buuut....

Ill be honest.. i have tools from the 1920's to 2020's. A tool is only as good as its ability to do two things... used for a long time, and serviced easily back to a quality state.
