The Cheapest Circular Saw On Amazon

I bought the cheapest 7 1/4" circular saw I could find on Amazon and put it through the paces. I wanted to know if you could buy this inexpensive circular saw and get good results. I bought this Black & Decker circular saw myself for $38 on Amazon. I used this cheap saw to cut plywood, spruce, pine and even white oak hardwood to see if it is worth $38. You can check out the saw, the CMT blade, and other equipment I used in this video using the links below. Amazon and other affiliate links are used in this description to help support our channel.

Grandma just gave me my first power tool. First up- replace the blade. Thanks for the great video! First cut is for a cedar stake to pot a plant with. 👍

I am from Sheffield, England, descended from several generations of knife and tool makers - Trust me, the quality of the blade is everything! :)

I am so glad you switched blades to give a tool a legitimate chance. Great video and content as usual

Bought a black&decker circular saw 12 years or so ago. I've remodeled much of our home with it and edged alot of live edge oak, maple, and tulip poplar that I've milled with my Alaskan mill. Alot of that live edge wood was 8ft long and up to 2" thick. Its held up well and aside from me losing the wrench it works like new. I bought a 1993 skil mag77 at a pawnshop last fall and put a 25ft cord on it, new brushes and handle on it. For $100 I've got a saw thatll probably outlast me and powers through everything with style. The 25ft long cord is the best thing you can do to a powertool. I just coil the cord down into a 5 gallon bucket and set the saw on top. If I need the saw I just carry the bucket.

Thanks for this. I bought a midrange saw but a good blade after watching. Cutting tubafours for a repair on Mom's house, the cuts were clean and fast.

My dad bought me a little Woodhawk when I first got married back in 1991. Still works. I was working on a job a few months ago and one of the guys dropped my Porter Cable, bending and breaking it all to pcs. I drug out that old woodhawk, put a new blade on it and it still cuts good. I built a house and a couple of barns with it years ago and been sitting collecting dust except to cut tin for years. Don't get me wrong I like newer more powerful stuff, and bought me another PC, but you can get by with a whole lot less.

I had the same happen to one of my blades, it was a tct blade but so dull it just got really hot and warped like yours about 3/4" . But when I stopped cutting it would cool and go straight again. New blade and cut perfect and a lot quieter. Great video.

I got a Ryobi saw to use with my Keegan rip fence. No waves.

Kind of surprised the cheapest saw you could find was actually a name brand. Wouldn't have thought that. Excellent evidence on how a quality blade makes all the difference.

NOTICED THE ORIGINAL SAW BLADE IS 18 TOOTH. THAT'S RATED FOR DEMOLITION SO YOU CAN'T EXPECT MUCH OF IT IF IT DOESN'T CUT THIN PLYWOOD OR PINE PERFECT.

Everything about that saw is minimal (bearings, motor, laser, etc.), but if someone uses it once in a while to break down material, it will do it's job, and it is basically disposable.

My first 7-1/4" circular saw was a Black & Decker. That saw, I used for the next 30 years plus, albeit I purchased it long before B&D merged with Stanley. This saw is now 40+ years old and it still cuts with the original blade that came with it. Because of using the B&D for most of my life, I have taken the attitude that those angle marks are only there for show and should not be depended on, on any saw. Go ahead, try cutting an accurate 45 degree miter for a frame with it. I recently replaced my other circular saws with the purchase of a Kobalt 7-1/4" saw because I liked the way it looked and felt. The blade that came with it was an ultra thin general purpose blade which was my only concern about it. when I laid into some plywood with it, I was really impressed. I got a nice clean, straight cut with it. For $68 I was impressed.

Might I suggest that the blade that came with that saw is only an 18 tooth course rip cut blade. If it is ultra thin also, then that's the reason you got burn marks doing a cross cut and the blade wandered as it expanded and warped while over heating. Would I buy B & D today? Probably not; only if they were giving them away for a few cents on the dollar.

An old carpenter once told me that a power saw is only as good as the blade on it. 'Nuff said.

Stanley Black and Decker owns Porter Cable, Dewalt and Craftsman and Black and Decker being the budget brand. There’s a tool for every job depending on your budget and skill level. In most cases tools don’t make a better woodworker, time, patience, practice, trial and error and knowledge. No matter what your skill level is of woodworking we can all learn from each other.

I use a circular saw that was $29.99 that works fine.
The secret... it's a Skilsaw brand, bought for my b'day in 1981!
Bought a new blade for it last year, a Diablo. Thought the saw was about to give up the ghost but nope it was the blade. Yes, I have replaced the blade a few times over years but this last blade makes it cut better than ever!
