This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Toyota RAV4, the best selling passenger vehicle in North America. Powering the Toyota RAV4 compact SUV is a 2.5L four-cylinder engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The RAV4 compact utility has 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The RAV4 comes standard with a 7” touchscreen, a 4.2” driver display, 6 speaker stereo system, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated fabric front seats, LED headlights, Blind Spot Monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, key-less Entry, power door locks and 17” wheels. The top Limited trim gets the bigger 8” touchscreen, ventilated front seats, 7” driver display, 19” wheels. LED fog lamps, 11 speaker JBL audio system, mixed Softex leather seating, driver seat memory, heated rear seats, and LED fog lamps. There’s great value with the middle XLE trim, it comes with a heated leather wrapped steering wheel, fabric seats, 8 way power adjustable driver seat, a moonroof and 19” wheels are available, otherwise 17” are standard. This trim is just $3,600 more than the base model LE, but you get so much more. Unfortunately, if you want the Softex seats or Softex leather seating you have to go up to the top two trims. Plus, all of the trims have manual passenger seat adjustments. When it comes to fuel economy the RAV4 AWD gets 8.8L/100km city and 7.1L/100km highway. The Toyota RAV4 is the best selling compact SUV in the country but there is some solid competition from players like the Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai Sanata Fe, Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Mitsubishi Outlander and the Ford Escape to name a few.

I bought a 2009 RAV4 Limited brand new. Here we are eleven years and 67, 000 miles later and it still drives like new. Only one $88 repair for a windshield washer pump in that entire period. Love it!

I own this car in AWD Hybrid form and it ISN’T quieter. However, I hardly ever have to push hard on the gas at all. If you drive the RAV4 the way Toyota intended the thing to be driven, you won’t be bothered by the engine noise at all. On the contrary, you can drive the car without noticing the engine is working and the system is so refined you will not notice the engine coming in if the system tells the engine to do so. I also tow a rather large trailer and even then it surprises me how smooth it drives. Sure, like I said, if I push it the car will tell you the engine is working. The car is not designed to do that and this is probably why Toyota didn’t adress this setback just yet. In short, probably the best car I have owned so far and keep in mind that nothing on this planet is perfect. Willem from Hekelingen, The Netherlands

I bought a 2021 Rav4 Limited last year and turning One year old this December. Yes, it’s loud on acceleration but I don’t mind it. What I do is turning the music volume up, which eventually lessen the engine noise. After all It’s a great car, reliable, and get me to the place where I want to be.

I bought a 2021 Limited this week. I am really enjoying hearing the engine. Just like my 80's cars.

I just bought a rav xle premium and I love it. I'm not real picky and my previous suv was pretty old so it feels like luxury to me personally. The noise doesn't bother me at all, I'm not accelerating a whole lot anyway and when I do I don't even notice.

I bought 2021 Rav 4 Limited in the same outside and interior colors . This color is called Blueprint. I actually love the sound of the engine, I call it "My Beast" 😊

The people that want TOYOTA to change are the same people that want to see them fail. I've been a Toyota owner for over 3 decades. Only vehicles I'll ever own. Quality, Reliability, Dependability and best resale hands down. Toyota builds Quality PERIOD! All other vehicles are endless money pit rolling piles of JUNK. 😊

You two are awesome. I've had 2 RAV4's since 2005 and 2018 and will be looking to get a 2021 here shortly. Thanks for the review.

Awesome video guys. If the noise is the issue, I would turn off my hearing aids and I don’t have to hear it. 😂 Few funny stuffs! I like the the beginning of the video makes me had a good laugh. 👍🏻👍🏻

Nice review. I chose the Rav4 Hybrid XLE and I think that was the best value version without the engine noise (for the better fuel economy). I am happy with my choice but interested in the long term reliability of the new Tucson hybrid you just reviewed. Thanks you two! Keep up the good work.

Great work, as always! Thank you. I drove Toyotas for years, from the Yaris to the Corolla, from the Camry to a Tacoma (and even a 4Runner) - the reputation is well-deserved. But not a lot of fun. For me a RAV4 is the perfect daily driver, as long as I could have a sports car in the garage for fun!

It makes sense that Toyota is so conservative with changing the RAV4 with how well it sells. I imagine they'd be more aggressive in making changes if sales dropped. The exterior of this generation is a big improvement over the last one though. I probably wouldn't ever buy one but its still the easiest small crossover to recommend to someone who doesn't care about cars but wants something reliable to go from A to B.
