1. INSTC is a great proposal, but there are a few problems, as below :
2. St.Petersburg to Astara is Russian guage ( RG ) , and Rasht to Bandar Abbas is Standard guage ( SG ),
so there involves one transhipment .
3. Maybe both Astara and Anzali would be required to be developed as container transhipment facility for both rail and sea
cargo ( for sea cargo to and from landlocked central Asian countries ).
4. Maybe proposed rail link between Astara and Anzali, would need to be double track, dual guage ( both RG and
SG ), also dual traction ( 3KV DC / 25 KV AC ).
5. Anzali to Bandar Abbas, needs to be a dedicated double track freight corridor.
P.S. All the very best for INSTC success .
6. As it is at present, there is no problem for cargo services by road .
