What is net neutrality?

Net neutrality, or the open internet, is the idea that internet service providers (ISPs) are considered common carriers or public utilities, like electric, water and railroad companies.

Old System was and is working fine... the new system proposal is about to make all websites battle each other out like cable tv sitcom shows for certain tv spot times based on user popularity...a certain high popularity website of users will get more faster access and quality viewing to any low popularity website of users get slow or get canceled to any user.... its like websites  YouTube  or Facebook which are popular so they get faster ISP to while  website Bestgore or random blogs or amateur/independent/small business websites that are not popular will get slow ISP to I think that is what net neutrality politics is about....  I could be wrong?

Actually a pretty good explanation, summarizes the problem well. Although I do think it should include more details about why people think net neutrality will hurt so much. Like Ajit Pai being a former lawyer for Verizon, or that that ISP's will be able to control information on the internet nearly completely, whether they would or not isn't the question the question is why we would give the ability to if the so choose too.

The FCC clearly doesn't understand that Net Neutrality doesn't only affect entertainment services but removing it affects services like: The stock market. any business / company that relies on it for its orders / clients. Utilities like water and heat that use the internet on the back end. Crucial systems, such as hospitals that also require some form of the internet to help their patients.
