The history of "The Other Father" stretches much further back than the existence of Coraline's real father... Find out how in this video.

We do not know the true name of the creature that is referred to as The Other Father, and we can really only speculate on it's origins. What we do know is that it predates The Beldam's manipulation of The Other World to make it look like the ideal version of Coraline Jones's home.

The movie leaves hints about how The Other Mother controls The Other Father, but in the book, author Neil Gaiman leaves behind more clues about the creature's past that were too dark and too scary to be included in the adaptation.

In this video I'll be exploring and analyzing the entire terrifying history of The Other Father, how it came to be associated with The Beldam, how it took on the appearance of Coraline's real father and the horrifying and sad fate it suffers and devolving into a true monster.

We'll also explore possible theories about it's former life, Coraline's scary underground encounter and much more!

This will cover the entire known history of The Other Father in Coraline from its messed up origins to its lonely fate in the early 2000s. Please note that this will only analyze the creature as it is written in the book. I will show clips from the 2009 movie, as a visual aid, but for the purpose of Horror History, the book is canon!

In the song that the “other father” sang to her, he tried to warn Coraline about the “other mother”.

I like to think that when the Other Mother was creating the Other Father that she accidentally allowed him to care too much about Coraline. The Other Mother knew that what Coraline wanted was parents that cared about her and had more time for her, and while her real patents did care they were always busy in the film. When the Other Mother created the Other Father she made sure that he would make him care as much about Coraline as he could. The Other Mother was only ever putting on an act about caring for Coraline but because the Other Father cared so much for Coraline he would have been able to do anything to help her escape. This includes the warnings in the song, trying to hint at what the Other Mother was planning, and even resisting her control to help Coraline gather the souls.

And at the end of the song, he says “Our eyes will be on Coraline.” Him and the Other Mother have button eyes, so he thinks their eyes will be on her.

All I could say is that the Other Father TRULY loved Coraline.

I like to think that other father was one of the dads of the children that were killed my the Beldam. he might have followed his kid into the other world, witness his kid dying, and then the Beldam trapped and used him to form the dad of the next kid to come through the door, but even with the Beldam's control within him, he still tried his hardest to warn and save the children that would come, without alerting the Beldam, as he could not save his own kid.

Honestly I haven’t seen this film yet, but just seeing the song he sings for Coroline makes him my favorite character in the film

1# [other] father award

He was honestly the best part making a song to warn her and helping her throughout the movie

Can we talk about how Other Father is the only one who tried to resist the Beldum and actually help Coraline?
Cause that is VERY strange.

I quickly made connections to the Other Father loosing his glamour and becoming a pumpkin to Cinderella's carriage after midnight: Once the glamour begins to wear out, the carriage becomes, well, an ordinary pumpkin. When the Beldam's power begins to weaken, so too does the illusion she created for Coraline. It seems the movie version of Other Father was just another of the Beldam's creation, when in the book he has more to his character like you said here.
In the movie both Other Father and Other Wybie seemed to have minds of their own, probably to make them seem more sympathetic to Coraline, but this came back to bite the Beldam in the butt, since that made them want to help Coraline and not just be "bait" for her. Both were destroyed for their efforts.

Also, in the song, I noticed that he said “Eyes” three times, foreshadowing that he wants to tell Coraline about the three ghost children and what the Beldam has planned, but again is restricted by the Beldam.
(Sorry if this has already been said in your videos!)

One of the things I noticed when the Other Mother was trying to get Coraline to have buttons in her eyes is when the other father and her are showing off the colors the buttons can come in. The other mothers eyes flash pink, pink meaning adoration and love. The other fathers flash orange, meaning warning

I think the worst thing the Beldam did to the other father was making him say that he was starving twice.

Well in the film, the filmmakers described him wanting to help Coraline a design flaw by the Other Mother. She made him genuinely love Coraline as a father would, and the same for Wybie as a friend, so they were willing to give their lives to see her free. It also seems in the film that he is not mentally controlled or pushed by Other Mother either, and that he has to physically be controlled to not say or do something against her will. I hope if not a sequel we get some form of lore expansion for this universe and how the Other Mother came to exist in her pocket reality.
