In this episode, we take a look at the Ridgid Max Output 6ah battery against the Ridgid Octane 6ah battery it replaces. By putting the Ridgid Max Out battery and the Max Output battery is the same as the Ridgid Octane battery or if it is an upgrade over the Ridgid Octane battery or if the Ridgid Max Output battery is the longest lasting, most powerful battery ever in the Ridgid lineup. We run a series of tests with each of the Ridgid Max Output and Ridgid Octane batteries by using the new Ridgid Brushless Max Output hammer drill. Can the Ridgid Max Output battery really outperform one of the best batteries ever in the tool world; the Ridgid Octane? We aim to find out tonight. We also take Clint at Tool Review Zone to task for his mistake in calling the Max Output battery as having 21700 cells when it clearly has 18650 cells.

Max Output Batteries are the most powerful and longest-running batteries released by Ridgid Tools to date. The advanced electronics in these packs enable users to power through even the most demanding tasks on the jobsite. They come in 2, 4, 6, and 8Ah sizes. The 8Ah pack even uses new 21700 cells for a huge boost in output and power.

When paired with their Max Output brushless tools, the batteries perform a sort of "electronic handshake" that lets the tool/battery combo produce a 20% bump in performance over their standard batteries. Now as if that wasn’t enough—Ridgid is extending its Lifetime Service Agreement to ALL of its batteries and chargers—that includes Max output and their standard 18V packs. Just register them online and you've got free batteries, free parts, free service, FOR LIFE!!! Ridgid’s Lifetime Service Agreement has always been a tough one to beat, and now no matter what work throws your way, they’ve got you covered.

Hey there!
Your video popped onto my recommended and I was really curious since I'm a Ridgid user. I haven't personally gotten any of the newer Ridgid line up tools but I have tried some of the tools from other family members and friends. I did a test like yours on the batteries. But I also used my Octane Hammer drill and didn't feel a noticeable difference. Something I would like to add is that the 3ah Octane battery uses 21700 cells unlike the 6ah and 9ah which still use the 18650s. I did notice a little difference in power and speed against the 4ah Max Output battery. I believe both batteries in your test use the same type cells. If you have a 3ah Octane battery. I would like to see a video of that pitted against a Max Output battery in a test like what you did here! Preferably the new 8ah Max Output battery since I believe that's the only new battery that uses the 21700 cells.
Also, I hope that the company that reached out to you is Flex power tools. I have a friend that's looking into getting his own tools and was looking at Kobalt. There was a Flex booth set up at Lowes the other day and I got to hear about some pretty sweet deals. I would like to see how they compare to my Ridgid Octane drills.
Am subscribing and can't wait to see what's in store for your channel!
Thank you for the down to earth test. Sometimes it's hard to choose what to watch with all options out there. I can't waste my time so the more precise, the better!
Can't wait to see some of your future videos!

I think a better head to head would be the 3.0AH octane Vs the 6.0 or Any of the max outputs and see how it stacks up because the only octane battery with 21700 cells in it is the three amp hr

Try some rust welded suspension bolts going through bushings for 15 years.

Or some crank bolts that have been on for 10 years.

I'd be willing to bet you that an octane 3AH battery with 21700 cells would beat both of those!

Not in the Ridgid platform, but was always curious to learn the difference between the Max Output and Octane batteries. Looking forward to watching!

I was really hoping that they wouldn’t discontinue the 3ah octane batteries but seeing that they abort the best battery performance and tech on the market ( my opinion) not surprised their not using the 21700 ’s on any of their batteries now when you make a decision as bad as killing the octane line the tools were good but I don’t see how they could discontinue the batteries .. thanks for the video though…🙏🏼I was hoping somebody would test this Cuz I didn’t want to spend $100 on a battery to check the cells and find 18650s like you did but would like to see the new 6AH MAX OUTPUT VS. The smaller discontinued Ridgid 3AH octane battery that does have 21’7s in it…I truly have been a Ridgid fan for 5-7years and unfortunately the direction they’re headed I do not see myself using Ridgid in another 5 years I suppose it’ll be onto another TTI produced Brand that’s now using basically an upgraded version of the Bluetooth capability the octane batteries head a.k.a. one key

So negligible differences between the batteries? I am disappoint, come on Ridgid!

Was the max output in speed 2 and somewhat successful of making it through or did you switch it over to mode 1? If left in speed 2, it may appear that the batteries are very close with the ever so slightest edge going to the max output but not enough to justify price over the octanes if you can get them cheaper.

Either way, seems like the max outputs are kind of a let down and a marketing ploy. Let's hope everyone moves to these pouch cells batteries in a hurry as they seem to be the real deal from what I've seen.

It's been tested the octane batteries with octane tools provide around 4.42% better torque on your tools 👌

The problem with doing a tool review with a tool a company sends you is that they might provide the best iteration they find during QA and/or with upgraded parts, so that the review isn't representative of the average tool bought at retail.

Have to agree, pretty close - really can't go wrong with either battery.

These max output batteries only carry a 3 year warranty even though they say LSA on package I registered the same day as purchase in early July I'm getting out of Ridgid and going back to Makita buyers beware of there deceptive claims.
