Everything is going down in quality and up in price. Tools, vehicles, food, etc etc. Inflation forces companies to take the cheap route to maximize profit while not raising the price so much that people won't want to buy their stuff. What a world we live in

It’s interesting I happen to also have the same 2 models and I totally agree. I liked that the older battery has rubber and it helps keep the drills up in a slightly angled surface but with the new ones you have to lay your drills on the side.

yes! i have both the older one is definitely rougher.

I love the newer batteries, have the old HyperLi ones too. The new oscillating multitool broke after 2 weeks for me though. My old JobMax tool has had drywall and sawdust caked in it for 2 years and it is still running strong.

Interesting you say that.
I have new and older batteries, and the best thing about the new power gauge bottom on the new batteries is they don't get hard to push like the older. ones. Guess some cheap things might be better over time 🤔

What happened is $$$. Even more important than the exterior plastic and over-molds, will be the cells inside. In the old ones you're gonna find stuff like LG/Samsung/Muratas in there, in the new ones it's cheap China Eve cells, in most of them :(

Dude, im with you 100%. I noticed this about the batteries and the new tools. They just look cheap. They also removed some key Rodgod features like the secondary trigger to turn the tool light on. That rubber overmold did a job. It wpuld help keep a tool from slipping on inclined surfaces. The new smooth batteries slide all over the place. Yes, the rubber would start to pull off, but put a little glue under there. Definite noticeable drop in feature and quality.

the rubber comes out if you use them in "real" jobsite on daily basis. The new battery can start work in colder temperature, that is how maximum output series are. see the way how to design is for high durability with lower cost of build. They do what they can with LSA

The 3AH octanes out preform the new 4AH max outputs. See torque test Chanel

Octane was doing too good, ridgids sales were beating milwakee. Ridgid is HD exclusive. TTI nurfed ridgid. If you look at the states the octane line still out performs most stuff out there today.

I love their new subcompact stuff though. Very powerful for how light and small they are

Agreed. The new batteries are not only cheap on material, they don’t perform as well. Additionally, the new charger with the tiny cord is ridiculous to bring on a job site. It’s fragile and doesn’t fit into any covered receptacle. Some soyboi who never held a tool in his life designed these. Big Fail.

I have the older regular batteries, octane and the new max outputs. I can't tell a difference between the max and the regulars but throw the octane to it and it'll sing. My 2 ah max output is a beast though. Like someone else has said the new multi-tool.i.have been through 3 and just bought another to stash back. Power switch is junk in them

The ones I saw recently in Home Depot must be the older style because they looked and felt like the one on the left.

The Gen x 5 1/4 inch impact drill is way better than the new one . Genx5 is stronger and has the led lights on the tip. Why they changed, I don't know . And now it has less protection because of no rubber cushions.

Not a fan of the rubber over mold on anything. As a design engineer who works with ID's. They always tell me that the actual quality doesn't matter to people, its the impression of quality that people care about. BTW.. I'm okay with over mold if the life expectancy is less than 3 years. Most of my tools are old and sticky.

I don't like the rubber on old batteries at all, they peel easily and get sticky. I prefer everything plastic.

The new batteries are top notch. The soft rubber overmold was trashy looking. As soon as it started to take ware it began to hang off the battery, it looked shredded and just terrible.

Much much much prefer the newer ridgid stuff
