In this video, we are counting down the top 10 facts about the Toy Poodle that you might not know.

A Quick Overview:
Group: Companion Dogs
Weight: 4 to 6 pounds
Height: 9 to 11 inches tall at the shoulder
Life Expectancy: 12 to 15 years

Miniature and Toy Poodles were created by gradually scaling down the Standard Poodle. This was first done for specific hunting tasks.

But changed to breed them for companionship.

Toy Poodles aren’t a recent development, in fact, they’re widely documented as far back as the 18th Century. Toy Poodle is one of the smartest and most trainable of all breeds. He is a "thinking" dog who pays rapt attention to his owner, learns quickly, and responds eagerly to positive training methods. Indeed, Toy Poodles NEED some sort of mental stimulation in order to be happy, even if it's just challenging games such as hide 'n seek or fetching a variety of named toys. This intelligent breed cannot simply sit in the backyard and be ignored.

Toy Poodles come in a very wide range of colors. Some include white, brown, black, silver, red, apricot, cream, silver beige, parti-color, and brindle. The parti-color is popularly considered the original color of the Poodle.

Most Toy Poodles make great watchdogs -- they will bark sharply at the door and they tend to be reserved (though polite and non-aggressive) with strangers. But there are also individuals like my dog Buffy, "who never met a stranger." (She loves everyone.) With other dogs and cats, Toy Poodles are peaceful and accepting.

I’ve had 5 toy poodles throughout my life. They are the best dogs ever. I don’t even consider a different breed. Maybe a standard size but will always have at least one toy poodle in my life. They are the sweetest, smartest, cutest dogs ever and I swear they understand every word their human says if you spend enough time with them. They understand your emotions and can sense everything. 11 out of 10.

I have a 9 year old little girl and love her to bits. She has a problem with fatty foods and suffers with pancreatitis but is under control with a gastrointestinal food from the vet. Costs no more than any other pet food and her meals are small. Has a bit of a problem with her teeth as she cannot have a bone to chew on etc to keep her teeth clean. Has cost a bit in dental work - but she’s worth it. She is our 3rd poodle - the other two were miniatures.

I had my toy poodle for 15 years. Today I had to put him down. He’s such a smart little doggy and would recommend toy poodles to anyone. He’s extremely loyal and cared so much about us.

Miss my toy poodle so much! she was only 16 years old and in great shape but she passed away this july due to us feeding her way too much protein heavy foods and her kidneys failed and we needed to put her down. Loved her to bits and I miss her everyday of my life. Definitely don’t feed these little guys crazy amounts of food or high protein foods

Our new Toy Poodle is still very young and is obsessed with our older whippets, the female (Valarie) managed to keep a distance but her brother (Bruce) gets jumped all over and is idolised by him, fortunately in typical whippets fashion he's very very docile and unphased so isn't bothered by the constant attention

My previous poodle also did not like swimming! When we brought him to the beach and put him down in the sea, he would swim back to the shore immediately
