I’ve gone on 17 cruises at age 34 now. I try not to act like an entitled person and I really try to be kind and genuine to every crew member because I learned how hard your schedules are and what your teams go through to make our vacation a dream. I thank you for that and I’m really happy when I see a lot of people from the Philippines because the American money they make and what we tip them with, goes a very long way in that country compared to USA.

I work on an ore ship (like the Edmund Fitzgerald) and it’s a pretty similar story. I don’t have to cook or worry about yard work or go to the store. I just do my work, eat, and then sleep until I get called again.

Do you know how it is for the deckhands on a cruise ship? For an ore ship it’s quite dreadful and deadly so I’ve been thinking about alternatives. Thanks!
