How to fix Bogging/hesitation when accelerating or hit WOT (wide open throttle)

Ep: 25

in this video I show how to fix a hesitation and/or bogging issue with carburetors by adjusting secondaries. Car used in this video is a 1976 corvette stingray that would bog when punched on the gas too fast or quickly. This of course will apply to most classic vehicles equipped with a Rochester 4 barrel Quadrajet / Quadra jet carb

The set screw on the older Q-jets took a 3/32" allen wrench. Thanks for the video.

the trick with a rochester quadrajet is to keep at least one or two extra carburetors. you grannie tune one for fuel economy and emissions if you're state or province mandates emissions testing. you keep that carburetor in a box and leave it in the trunk or shop bench. then you take an older quadrajet and you "school bus calibrated" slightly fatter mixture on primaries or idle mixture, then you find or make a set of secondary fuel rods that are like toothpicks on the tips. you can make the adjustments in small increments to achieve the right amount of mixture for wide open throttle. no little 750cfm square bore or double pumper should keep up with it. unless they knew how to tune it better than you

The Pull Over Enrichment holes(POE) on YOUR carb model are also ABOVE the leading edge of the air doors. If you've made any performance mods other than your intake, you might also want to consider cutting two small semi-circular openings(the size of a pencil eraser) on the air doors by these holes. This will start the flow of air/fuel mixture thru the POE quicker as the air doors begin to open thus preventing bogs.

Nice video, i love learning about these old quadrajets. Also, your 76 is the same paint/interior trim as my 77.

i have this issue but opposite, when we floor it the pedal goes smoothly but when going slow it stutters and catches on something and then goes which make it (my truck) un-drivable, its a 72 C10 Chevy L6 250, we replaced the carb, the return springs and the throttle cable but now its giving me this issue where low rpm has a stutter (gas pedal alone) but flooring it no stutter at all, like the cable is getting stuck

Looks like your accelerator pump lever is in the wrong hole. I’ve never seen one in the outer hole. I’ve only seen it in the inner position.

I got a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis and its doing the same thing. It starts up and all that but once I accelerate or try to reverse, it stalls. I'll try this and hopefully it'll work.
