Reading Speed Test

Reading speed is one of those things that we rarely think about, but some people out there are the cheetahs of the reading world. Some can read up to 1000 words a minute, where the average person reads at around 200 words a minute. How do you compare?

I was testing my reading speed since English is my second language. On my mothern tongue I've got a 1200 aprox reading speed, here I've got a 500-600... I mean, I can read faster but then I find myself barely grasping the meaning of the most complicated words, so I'm guessing it's a vocabulary problem. Maybe with a less challenging text I'd have more reading speed, and with a more complex one I'd have even less. I guess it makes sense, because you also need time to process, not just to read.

Thank you for this great, quick reading test. Were we really reading above 400 words per minute to 800 words per minute in the video???? My comprehension was best up to 350-400 words per minute. I could read at a conversational level in my head. Above 400 words per minute I finished reading each word, however, I felt like I was gulping my food. I didn't chew or digest. I felt like I understood the content, but lost detail. I really appreciated the test. I was hoping to test my reading speed. Sometimes on the internet, information is flashed so quickly I wondered if I was reading too slow. However, if your test is right, then I am reading at an appropriate speed for college reading.

Reading Sci-Fi is sort of confusing, especially for those who haven't done so / aren't fond of doing so which can affect our speed.

I could read up to 800 but my reading comprehension is only up to 600 due to it being too fast and the words being complicated to understand that fast

At 600 I missed the last two sentences. I got the gist of it but I was skimming the last two lines. After that my mind shut down!hopefully my eyes will uncross by the morning!

800. I always excelled at reading growing up and I didn’t have a lot of other things to do besides getting lost in a book. You learn to speed read after a while

If I was into what I am reading I can read 150 pages in an hour and I’m only 12
