Is Jupiter a FAILED Star?!? #shorts

Poor Jupiter, it's often called a failure.- a failed star that is. Was it supposed to be a star? Like our sun? Jupiter is actually bigger than some stars, so why didn't we get a second sun? Jupiter would need to have 75 times more mass than it does now to fuse hydrogen into helium and become a star.

Stars are born when a dense knot of material in an interstellar molecular cloud collapses under its own gravity. Once the sun formed and finished accreting material, there was still a lot of accretion disc left over. Just Not enough left over to form a double star system.

Jupiter did its best to slurp up all the material that was available to it, but then it stopped growing and the hope of becoming a star faded.

Sorry, Jupiter, you're still a very cool planet.

Either Jupiter could have been a tiny red dwarf or the biggest planet in its planetary system, I think it got the better end of the stick.

Man, Jupiter takes all the asteroid hits for us like a bro and at the end he gets this.

It could have also been a brown dwarf as well which I think is really cool. I’ve always found this topic of Jupiter becoming a star very interesting.

If Jupiter had 75 times more mass than would it shine?

And can you see inside the Andromeda Galaxy as it is so close?

One quote that has always stuck with about this very thing came from Phil Plait, the Bad Astronomer.
"Jupiter isn't a failed star, it's a REALLY successful planet!"

Well, now Jupiter and me had something in common, *“a FAILURE”*

it's not a failure, it's the most beautiful planet in the galaxy.

Looking at ancient texts, Jupiter was supposedly at least slightly illuminated during ancient times. I can't recall the exact details found in these texts but I found it very fascinating, nonetheless.

Jupiter failed as a star but became the biggest planet in our solar system. He lost the battle but won the war.

Jupiter needs to sort out that huge red spot !

Fascinating stuff Chuck! You’d have to get more telescopes if we had two sun’s 😀

if Jupiter wouldn't have stayed there, we would have a lot of asteroids coming from the belt slingshotted by Mars

Saturn, Uranus and Neptune’s gravity stopped it dead in its tracks and gave us life.
