I love how Oda invents Cross Guild and inmediatly after he drops a massive truth bomb on the world that gives that extra bit of resentment for going after the Marines, who are the public face of the WG

I think initially a large chunk of Marines will defect, but many will stay in denial until they actually witness the destruction.

doffy speech at the end of dressrosa also implies the divide between the marines and celestial dragons. he lists the yonko, worst gen, warlords, marines and revolutionaries as players aiming to rule the seas while referring to the celestial dragons as being dragged down in it which we are seeing happen in with egg head arc. every major faction as made a move in some way

I already picture a breathtaking panel with a legion of high ranking marines all in unison throwing their WG capes down

The thrones war is looking even more hype than we expected.
- StrawHat Alliance
- Imu & the Celestial Dragons
- Blackbeard
- Revolutionaries
- Akainu and the Marines
- Cross Guild
- Shanks fleet

Like MarineFord is actually looking small scaled in comparison

I think there's a reason Akainu has been linked with volcano's. Dude is going to blow his top and he's literally been boiling since his first appearance.

The World government will be in hot water, when the mad dog tears away his leash and bites back.

To be fair, people joining the marines don't need to be brainwashed when many pirate crews are monsters and they see it with their own eyes and join wanting to protect civilians.

I always thought that Akainu is in a way like Luffy, an aspect of Luffy that went too far in justice. They're also determined and strong willed individuals and dont like being tied to one place. Maybe he had a brotherhood with Dragon a one other before it fell apart due to Dragon's beliefs causing a rift unlike Luffy Ace and Sabo. All the more reason why their battle is inevitable.

I disagree about Sakazuki not teaming up with some pirate crew to overthrow the Celestial Dragons. He expressed anger that the Warlords were abolished, and even implies that sometimes, the Marines have to swallow their pride and work with pirates to quell a threat to both parties ("Justice has its price!"). Given what Teach is trying to accomplish, I can see him teaming up with the Blackbeard Pirates to overthrow the Celestial Dragons under the false promise of recognizing Hachinosu as a member nation in his World Government. Realistically, Sakazuki himself is a pirate by nature, in that he fights on the same level as the average pirate (lying, sucker punching, and general dirty tactics) to enforce his vision of justice. He can and will lie to Blackbeard, even USE him and his crew if it leads to his desired endgoal. First rule of extremeism: the ends ALWAYS justify the means!

Honestly I've always found it dumb how people think people like akainu, kizaru, fujitora, koby etc will all be nothing but celestial dragon dogs for the rest of the series.

Now the motive for York wanting to become a celestial dragon makes sense, York wanted to save themselves from the global flood. Being a Vegapunk they knew about it and wanted an out.

Green Bull is definitely sticking with the Celestial Dragons though.

I'm wondering how Ryokugyu fits into all of this.

I reckon the reason he was introduced so late into the story, so close to the great cleansing, and is so virulently pro-Celestial Dragon more so than any other Marine in the series, is because his the main purpose of his character is to be an exception to the broader rule of the Marines abandoning the World Government once they learn of the great cleansing and their history.

By the end of the story, Marines who are still loyal and and dogmatic like Ryokugyu will look like the exception among the Marines, where at the start of the story it seemed like Marines who weren't like Ryokugyu were the exception.

Essentially, Ryokugyu's purpose is ultimately to highlight how far the Marines as a whole will have turned against Marines like Ryokugyu.

Tbh the biggest change i want to see is Akainu getting out of his desk.

Here’s an idea: while the 5 Elders are in Egghead fighting Luffys crew. The Fleet Admiral and the other marines attempt to confront Imu at Marie Geoise…

There we get to see Akainu who’s been so pissed that he just lashes at Imu. It could be a reference to the dog that bite the owners hand.

I'm truly impressed how much Oda has quietly developed Kizaru, giving him more layers and nuance than either of the two defeated Yonko. Gives me a lot of hope that Oda will make the remaining Admirals as complex and layered.

Akainu having not just Conquerors but Advanced Conquerors is looking more likely. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him unveil a huge lightshow of black lightning that has fodder in all the other factions keeling over
