When people ask what makes the Marine Corps different

THE STANDARD! While other branches are out there lowering ASVAB scores, weight requirements, body fat percentages and personal appearances, the Marines have remained true to their core and not lowered a SINGLE STANDARD.

You either meet the requirements or seek employment elsewhere…

This is coming straight from the MOST SENIOR enlisted Marine in the entire Marine Corps. There’s your answer.

Marine corps: “The asvab requirement will not get any lower since it’s already as low as possible”

Exactly why I’m joining the marines, they don’t allow BS

I weighed 250 during Covid. But I still knew I could do better. 8 months later I get shipped to Marine Corps Bootcamp and weight 165-170. Was one of two recruits of my platoon to get top physical fitness award

I love the marines and truly think they’d be the best fighting force on the planet if they had better funding and not just the scraps of the navy’s budget

There's a reason why they won't lower their standards, any lower and they'd be signing potatoes.

I’m todays world where standards are lowered to not offend or hurt peoples feelings, it’s only the marines that can look people in the eye and tell them you failed, you do not get this honor

Honetly, I didn't know shit about the Marines, Army, Navy or Air Force when my recruiter contacted me. I was a high school non-grad, so he figured right that I had no real plans after high school. I aced the ASVAB and became an "ANGLICO" Marine. I was a scrawny kid going into bootcamp (at 18 years of age) and I suffered through mountain training and the swimming quals. The biggest obstacle to becoming a Marine is a psychological one, as it should be. The Marine Corps tries to weed out the psychological weaklings -- and they generally do a good job of it, which is why Marines have such a good brothershood, because even if you're a cook or a recon Marine in the Corps, we all know that you made it through the same bootcamp and weeding-out system that we all went through.

The standards for weight being lowered is a good thing. I knew someone who was able to max out the ACFT but still got kicked out for being “overweight” best soldier I ever met and strongest too. Just had bad genetics

Hate to break it too yall but over my 10 years in they lowered the standard twice. 2017 was the biggest standard changed I had seen. I love the corps. Holds a special place to me even now that I'm in the army. But sadly, all branches are doing this. And it's going to get worse.

Im fine with not lowering the standards, but having more programs to help Americans who cannot meet the standard train to meet that standard would be mutually beneficial to all parties

Lowering entry standards isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as they keep training standards. That's the purpose of basic, to build standards.

Cool, so the Air Force has a system where until you meet the standard you don’t graduate. Navy has more or less the same, Army has a prep course to get you to the standard before you actually go to BCT so you can meet the standard. As far as I’m concerned here, everyone is still required to meet the standard. Am I missing something?

The marines only shhot for ~180k for their branch. Generally the other branches being bigger, especially army need to find ways to help push people to being in compliance, however none of these programs particularly lower the standard a lot they just help increase the talent pool for who can join

The Army Recruiter: "We have a signing bonus you get upon completion of your contract, what else can i offer to get you to sign that dotted line."

USMC Recruiter: "What do you have to offer the Marine Corps and why should we make you a Marine"

Lowering the standards for people going headfirst into hell is just a bad idea.
