Good vid. I’m retired Infantry (OSUT 1997). The best thing I can say, is plan to spend half your career cold, or hot, hungry, tired, in mild pain, and exhausted. You can embrace the suck and be proud, or you can break down and defeat yourself mentally. The mental component will kill you faster than the physical. I’ve seen really athletic dudes break down in training, at the unit level, and in combat. Almost always defeated by their own mindset.

Also, don’t go to your unit cocky. OSUT has a way of making you feel like a giant. Understand that, though you got some good training, you still don’t know squat. I don’t think I ever stopped learning new things my entire career. When I was a new private, I picked the brains of the E-4 mafia, paid attention, learned by asking and observing. Your unit will respect a sponge much more than an arrogant boot.

Went through OSUT back in 2019, best advice for the most part when dealing with Drills is to just shut up, listen, and apply it to the best of your ability. Everything is easy if you come at it with the right mentality, and even if you aren't the strongest, just put in that extra work when possible while you're there. Go from being the weakest to the strongest, and it will pay off.

Heck yeah! Thank you!

I’m basically sold on 11B for Maryland NG. Waiting on medical clearance to go thru and then it’s on!

At Moore right now in infantry ait and there’s nothing to worry about, you don’t have to be a pt beast to pass, you’ll get in shape in basic and it’ll be enough to pass whatever you need to in ait

I am leaving for Moore monday! I have been working out and running for the past few months as I used to be overweight in high school, but I am confident. I need to get my pushups better as I can really only do 10-13 with good form. Going to be an interesting 24 weeks (airborne training) but I will get through it!

Thanks for the video! Headed to MEPS next Thursday to take my test. Passed the practice one with my recruiter twice. I am looking to go 11B! This video definitely gave me good insights on what I should be expecting. To all who’s planning on going, good luck. Rangers Lead The Way 🇺🇸💛

2:58 question: what if multiple candidates maxed out the ACFT (which I assume happens all the time for infantry candidates), would there then be multiple "Iron Soldier" titles awarded?

Don’t listen to what’s being said, UNDERSTAND what’s being said. Stop daydreaming and stay focused all the time. Condition Yellow, aware, alert, and prepared. Don’t quit and stay in the fight.

The best way to prepare is to acclimate the body to lots of running, rucking, and pushups. That’s like 80% of what you do at OSUT. Especially rucking if you don’t prepare and acclimate your body to heavy rucks you WILL injure yourself especially your back knees and hips, don’t be stupid and RUCK at least twice a week, get your lower body super strong to prepare.
