In this video we configure a Unifi network from start to finish using the new user interface. I show you the network topology I am using, we adopt out Unifi access points and Unifi switches. I create vlans, WIFI network , firewall rules and we configure threat management.

Well done video! Easy to understand. Only thing i miss is a bit more in-depth on the firewall rules. Like explain some more what they do. Keep it up!

Thanks for this content, VERY well done! Please dig deeper into adding secure and redundant Pihole. Also it would be awesome to have a detailed how-to for Sonos products (dealing with STP and how to allow access to speakers across VLANS)

Hands down the best setup walkthrough.

As usually another great video. You really could do a firewall tutorial video next.

Great Video. Your other classic video setup included VPN/Radius setup and Access Point group access to all Vlans. Those were great areas to configure. I noticed that my global threat management icon is different than yours and is labeled traffic Inspector. I had to have missed something to not get the threat management icon and configuration. Based on the areas that you covered in your video, it looks correct. Probably missing something simple. Never the less, great job and I really appreciate your videos.

Hi Mac,

Thanks for the video, I always learn a lot with your videos.

I have a question, I tried add my wifi device (NanoHD) to a port profile WIFI (vlan), but then wifi stopped work. On 15:57 you did this with your Xbox, we can't do that with wifi devices?

Hi, I'm from the Dutch part of Belgium so I hope you understand my questions 😋

First of all, thank you VERY MUCH for your effort and trying to explain it best possible! I had a lot of info from your vids!

1) Why did you enable the optimize IoT WiFi network for your own (private/home) WiFi network? (I understand why you would chosen it specific for your IoT wifi network)
2) Is there a specific reason why you update your APs firmware first, than switches and latest the router. Is it bad if you start with router, switch and then AP?
3) Why do you add the UI stuff into a seperate mgmt VLAN? (what is the advantage?) --> you can manage it in UDM-Pro after all?
4) When creating those Honeypot things, it uses automatic the .2 IP --> May I change that or does it HAVE to be .2 (because it is in my DHCP Scope/range)?

EDIT: at XX:XX you say: Now do it for all the other subnets. Can you say what exactly? Just a LAN, LAN Local rule called Block X to Firewall Interface? Or also those http/s and ssh ports and also the group Block X to Gateway? And really for ALL subnets? Like: LAN, MGMT, Server, Camera, IoT, in my home? (Not Guest because of Device Isolation) But also to my LAN?

Sorry for my bad English... well to write it down chronologically I mean... and typos lol

Would you do a setup video on incorporating this with Sonos?

Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much! Now I have a better understanding of how to create VLANS.

Thx for the video.
But it looks like you forgot one important thing... If I setup it like described, you don't have access to the switch because you don't have assigned a rule for the "Management VLAN".

Or did I miss something?

I'd like to see a video integrating the Unifi firewall rules to only allow certain DNS servers out ( say PiHole ) and stopping users from bypassing assigned (filtered ) DNS servers to bypass your blocking :D ( pretty please lol)

Time to do another one now that v7 is out. ;) Lots of the network settings stuff has changed.

22:27 - you say we need to do this for any other subnet besides the guest. So in your example you have the IoT, Camera, Guest, Mangement and LAN. IoT, Guest and Camera are done in the video, but should it also be the same rules for LAN and Management?

Thanks

Thanks for the great video, very helpful. I was wondering if you had a download profile (backup) with these settings pre-done. Thanks

Extremely helpful, thank you, can you do a tutorial about setting up One-to-One NAT on the UXG?

The problem that I having the UDM is that, as soon as you walk off the golden path, you basically need to reset it to the factory defaults. So often that I wanted to test things out and revert back to the old situation it would not let me. So basically you need to get it right the first time around otherwise you are screwed. The idea behind the UDM is nice, but boy do they need to hire better programmers. Oh and BTW, nice content!
