Grocery Workers Fight Back After Pay Increase Is Cut

Workers at Safeway in Alberta have voted to strike after their $2 per hour pay increase was cut while the parent company, Empire Co. Ltd., continues to increase profits.

I work at a grocery store in the states and they confirmed our extra pay and our doubled discount are extended to the end of the year as of like 2 weeks ago. Hearing things like this is disgusting.

I work at a grocery chain and the pay cut was a slap in the face. The virus is still very real and they just don't care.

In my small town out in the boonies there are 2 grocery stores, a Safeway and 10 miles farther is a Fred Myers. I'm already boycotting the Walmart, now I'll drive 10 miles farther and flip of the Safeway as I go by.

You should look into Overwaite Foods(Jimmy Pattison Group). Not only did they cut that hero pay on May 2nd, they cut hours huge or laid off workers who worked during that hero pay period because they wanted to avoid people getting benefits or closer to a full time status and made new hires. In other words they used them in the 90 day probation period and then let them go and hired new people at cheaper rates. GROSS!!!

I work at Target, and we got a $3 "hazard pay" raise. They ended up letting us keep the raise indefinitely; target was smart; because there was already whispers of a general walkout. $2 an hour is a small price to pay to keep profits running.
