Flowmaster vs Magnaflow 69 Mustang Resto Rod

A quick video to showcase the difference I found between the old Flowmaster exhaust system I had on my 69 Mustang Coupe as compared to the new Magnaflow exhaust system I had installed by the masters at Carline Auto Repair in Maple Ridge BC. These are by far the go to guys for any Hot Rod, performance exhaust build. They've built hundreds if not thousands of systems like this on a huge array of custom cars. The old Flowmaster 50 series system the car had was poorly installed by the previous owner of this car, as awesome as it sounded at times, it was just too loud for a days drive and was causing hearing damage that I just cannot afford at my age. Add to that the drone and vibration caused by probably a lot of the poor installation and mostly by the inherent nature of the Flowmaster design, was more than i could bare any longer. At the end of this video is a quick build slideshow if you care to stick around and see it. Thank you for watching, hope you get something out of it.

Well, after much deliberation, I went ahead and switched the mufflers on my 1970 Firebird with a HO455/462 from flowmasters to mangnaflow 18". Pitt Bull was really helpful and with other videos, I knew that the 14" MF would not make enough of a difference. Outcome? A 10 decibel change at idle and the cabin drone is dramatically reduced. Still enough sound with your foot down but a classy burgle/rumble rather then a drag race sound. Perfect for me. Thanks to all those that gave me input.

Sounds great bud. It only screams "look at me" when it absolutely means it VS every second its running. I think you made a solid choice.

installed my Magnaflows today, the sound is so much smoother and the car has so much less vibrations and drone ! a lot quieter than i was expecting however. i have seen a few " year later" magnaflow vids and they do get much louder in time !

i had DRONEmasters on my old 67 I had w/ 351w. i never loved them from start to finish, they sound like they belong on a truck, not a muctang.. i have black widow 250s on my 65 fastback now. WILL be switching to these magnaflows this year !

Thank you for your reply and insights. By the type on your video, I am gathering that their was a notable difference from the flowmasters to the Magnaflow's. That the Drone is now gone though the Magnaflow's are only slightly quieter. Is that an accurate description of the change? Would you do it again?

Did you felt the performance with the Magnaflow? Honestly the Magnaflow sounded a lot better. Not saying Flowmaster sounded horrible because it didn’t. But the Magnaflow man. Wow. Not bad at all.

I'm wondering if the 11" length in these would be much louder ? rather than the 14" u went with

I have a 1970 Firebird with a 72 HO455 and the previous owner has fitted 13" flowmasters. Terrible Drone and too damn loud for enjoyment. Looks like you have had the 14" Magnas on for two years now. Happy or wishing you would have gone with the 18"?
