One of the keys to working across cultures is understanding low-context and high-context communication (terms by Edward Hall). These terms are meant to be guidelines, and starting points, for us to understand the tendencies in communication, group behavior and business attitudes. Remember that within a culture there are many variations, and even within families or married couples there can be both low- and high-context communicators.
