History of the Romani people

The Romani people, also referred to depending on the sub-group as Roma, Sinti or Sindhi, or Kale are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group, who live primarily in Europe. They originated in northwest regions of the India and left sometime between the 6th and 11th century to work in Middle Eastern courts of their own volition, or as slaves. A small number of nomadic groups were cut off from their return to the subcontinent by conflicts and moved west, eventually settling in Europe, the Byzantine Empire and North Africa via Iran.
Origin
There is no 100% origin theory that is accepted for all different Romani groups. Almost every Romani group has its own history of origin. It varies a lot, especially between Christian and Muslim Romani. The various theories of origin were put forward by non-Romani people, some with obscure claims. A large part of the Romani believe their original home is the Sindh region, especially the Sinti, others say Egypt or Iran, this claim is made by the Ashkali and Balkan Egyptians. Many Muslim Romani people deny their origin and pretend to be Turks and speak Turkish only instead of Balkan Romani, others only speak the different Languages of Yugoslavia.
The Romani have been described by Diana Muir Appelbaum as unique among peoples because they have never identified themselves with a territory; they have no tradition of an ancient and distant homeland from which their ancestors migrated, nor do they claim the right to national sovereignty in any of the lands where they reside. Rather, Romani identity is bound up with the ideal of freedom expressed, in part, in having no ties to a homeland. The absence of a written history has meant that the origin and early history of the Romani people was long an enigma. Indian origin was suggested on linguistic grounds as early as the late 18th century. However, these statements are in contrast to the aspirations of romani people, a country of their own, called Romanistan.

The Roma name comes straight from Hindu Sanskrit Rromaah means Ramaah Rama name of there ppl in Hinduism the name does not come from Dom that is a different caste group not related to Romani

we only have one Roma language .. I heard the dom doma speak it’s the same language as the rom roma speaks .. now ever since our tribes been away from India many of our people forgotten some words and those were replaced with the countries they live in .. so that’s why there’s different words for roma and doma but still the majority of the words are the same ..

When Roma Gypsies first came to Europe in Greece, (this days Turkey) they were known as "Egyptians" due to their "says" or stories that claimed that they came from Little Egypt and where originally slaves of the Egyptian Pharaohs. We called us Roman Egyptians, becose EGYPT was part of Roman empire, ROMAN REPUBLIC . In Greece the called us ROMANO GITANOS- ROMAN EGYPTIAN- ROMA GYPSY ....How did Egypt become Roman?

The rich lands of Egypt became the property of Rome, Roman republic, after the death of Cleopatra VII in 30 BCE, which spelled the end of the Ptolemaic dynasty that had ruled Egypt since the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BCE. After the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, the Roman Republic was left in turmoil. (32–30 BC) was the last civil war of the Roman Republic, fought between Mark Antony (assisted by Cleopatra and by extension Ptolemaic Egypt) and Octavian. In 32 BC, Octavian convinced the Roman Senate to declare war on the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. after the end of Slavery in EGYPT, soon started first century we become follow jesus CHIST .christianity was the only religion we had, ( NO budha, or hinduizm. or other Gods as KRISHNA ) !!!
There is also an account of the same events in the form of a poem from the Merneptah Stele, widely known as the Israel Stele, which mentions the suppression of revolts in Canaan and makes reference to the supposed utter destruction of Israel in a campaign prior to his fifth year, in Canaan: "Israel has been wiped out...its seed is no more." This is the first recognised ancient Egyptian record of the existence of Israel--"not as a country or city, but as a tribe" or people.[9] A newly discovered massive layer of fiery destruction confirms Merneptah's boast about his Canaanite campaign

I don t think they are Romani, they are gypsies and Romani are the people living in Romania. Yes, the gypsies do live in Romania but they also live in Hungary, Poland, Germany

we Roma have never eat curry and rice as tradititon roma FOOD in the past ! we never had religion backround as budhist or hindu which we broad with us to europe ! we are not from India . the closes language to roma is sanscrit language . firs spoken sanskrit language was in mesopotania today in north Siria
