A lot of people think we are the same, especially in the UK, however just because travellers were incorrectly called the sIur “gypsy” due to their association with us does not mean we are the same people, we have a different ethnic origin, culture and language.

Just wanted to add: in France, there is an administrative category for people living a nomadic / semi-nomadic lifestyle which is "gens du voyage" which can be translated to "travellers" in English. Many "gens du voyage" are Sinti or Manouches (but not 100%). Sorry to add to the confusion 😅

In the uk (I’m not sure about other countries) because we have been pushed into the same locations by the council there is a large number of Roma/traveler mixed people. Beautiful to see both cultures, a lot of my good friends are Irish travellers❤

Florian, thank you for this content. Thanks to you I learned so much about Romani people and continue to learn. Even though I didn’t think about learning about your people before, your videos ignited that desire. And as a Kurd who lives alongside the Romani people in Turkey; I especially feel like learning about people who also endure so much oppression and hardships is vital for forming healthy bonds with them. Even if we aren’t “related” as such. Walking on the same earth and eating on the same table is enough🧡

Also I can’t go without saying that, you have such a beautiful face✨ your eyes are _extremely_ pretty! 🥰 So handsome

I was watching a breakdown video about a family of “nomad” influencers who live and travel around in a VR, constantly broadcasting their lives, and before explaining in detail the negative effects such a lifestyle may have on young people, the lady making it took time to make a disclaimer that her criticism of their lifestyle is not about, and shouldn’t involve, travelling communities “like the Roma and the Irish travellers”.
Two different sets of people.

I remember some Romani users being pleasantly surprised.

I wish I could observe the culture, just to understand it better. Where I live there isn't any travelers or Roma people, it'd be nice to experience more cultures.

Outside of a British and Irish context traveler can be another word for Romani. Here in Sweden especially older people might say that their family is ‘travellers’ as that would be the word people would have recognised and didn’t feel as insulting as ‘zigenare’ or especially ‘tattare’. I’m not saying other people should use it but I am saying that the same terms can have differens meanings depending on where you are :)
