Thank you so much for your videos ... I am 54 and perimenopausal. I am struggling with the changes that are going on with my body and one of the hardest things that I am now coping with is my lack of energy. It is such a drastic change for me that it affects my mental health. And this lack of energy combined with mental health then causes procrastination 😔

I’m going to try this now. I’m so overwhelmed with everything in my life. I can’t even text my grown son back, late fees on credit cards house a mess on and on

I let my dishes pile up (gonna buy a dishwasher soon!), and eventually make two or three manageable steps of it: put previous clean dishes away, rinse and organize dirty dishes in the order they'll be washed and wash. Once I start, doing one step often leads to the next, but even if not, breaking it down into steps makes it less daunting, and helps get it done.

Thank you, doc! It's a simple and effective tecnique and eventually it might create a virtuous circle...or, at least, a person can say: "I did it! Yes!" and it will give a (precious)sense of fulfillment.

Plus, again you offered an accurate description of the "struggle with moundane things" when someone is psychologically suffering and struggling.

And again, you explained in a simple way, how brain processes infos in this situation.

This explanation itself helps too: it decreases the "guilt" and open a window to "function" properly; babystep by babystep.

Thank you.

Thank you for this.. ❤ 😊 Mental health is real. The struggle is real.😢

What works best for me is to simply take small steps - I'll wash the utensils I cook with as I finish using them, instead of letting them soak in the sink. Often there's enough momentum generated to carry me a bit further, which is always a lovely surprise. But it is such a welcome validation to have this issue identified by a therapist, and to have a helpful alternative given. Your perspectives, from having been in the trenches yourself, are priceless to those of us facing these struggles. As always, my world is better because you are in it!

This is what works for me (most of the time anyway).

I really like this idea. I can do a little bit each day...sometimes if i start with this in mind i find that I can spend a little bit more time and once in a while I can do more than I thot I could.

Instead for 8 hours I will do 1 hour tomorrow, even I'll make it a habit to do that everyday, I think after 30 days I'll feel better ❤, thanks for inspiring me 🙏🏼

Exactly how I think and what my challenges are. I'm so overwhelmed that I can't even start the 10 minutes.

This reminds me of a problem I have. I do landscaping and even though I am very confident in my work and have all the equipment to get a job done, i get an intense feeling of feeling overwhelmed on a job. Knowing I have to finish just triggers something. Doesn't occur in other personal tasks. Maybe I need to break it down and think of it differently- although difficult because I still know i must finish each job. I always do too

Exactly 💯 setting time limits/timers is one way to trick the brain into buying into expending a slice of effort....starting is absolutely prohibitive otherwise. Once started, you get invested and are on a mission 😂😊

Also a good rule to trick your brain into flow state. Use it all the time at work and working on my car.

Learning to drop what I'm doing and do the break appears to be a big deal. If you can't take breaks then of course its hard to start a task. Each task are singular giant tasks that takes forever.

Using our executive functions is like using a muscle, it literally uses glucose. So like a muscle that starts to shake and exhausts when you've run it to the ground, the brain stops running or hold onto important thoughts when it tuns out of fuel.

Outsource your executive functioning to your senses, i.e. ears with timers or eyes by keeping regular items where they are easily accessible

Oh my, I am struggling with this clean up issue. I have to clean the room I rent, I keep talking myself out of it.

I dislike cleaning, but I know I have to do. I know I will feel better once it's done.

I can't even face reading a long email, stewing some apples or trying on trainers that look too narrow for me feet. Keep dosing and can't stop my body from napping, then I feel groggy and even more exausted late afternoon and evening.

I WILL force myself to make stewed apple right now 😊.
