What Must I Do To Be Saved? | Theocast

Jon and Justin seek to answer the question, "What must I do to be saved?" This is a question that was posed to Jesus at numerous points. The apostles also addressed this question repeatedly. The guys consider two parables from the Lord Jesus: the Good Samaritan and the Rich Young Man; and also a passage from the apostle Paul: Romans 2:6-13. Reformed categories of law and gospel are essential if we are going to rightly understand these passages.

Semper Reformanda: Jon and Justin consider how obedience is talked about in a context where law and gospel are confused. The guys talk about so much of what is preached is effectively easy-listening legalism and prosperity theology.

Could you possibly do a (another?) podcast on how believing Satan's condemning lies that we are not really saved can actually lead people to not have victory over sin?

This is so good cause it debunks what i have been taught and have believed. That when i obey the law then i will be blessed financially and disobey then i am cursed. My husband and i have believed the prosperity gospel and now i am against it but my husband still believes it. Also can you address the word of faith movement

I’m loving your podcasts!!! I still have some nagging questions that I can’t seem to shake. Maybe you guys could address them on future podcasts. Questions like, “Why do so many pastors and commentators miss these points?”

God did the work of causing us to follow Jesus clear to heaven, through the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Christ and ours with him.

The parable is about possessions. Possessions do not get you security. They may be God’s blessings and we need to be thankful. But they are apart from God not security but death. They are idols.

The parable describes who his neighbour is. This is not law. The law is the way of life. “Do this and you will live”.

Wanted ask something i am confused about. Every word that Jesus spoke is truth. From what i have beem learning is that after Jesus death on the cross tbe New Covenant went into effect so how do we live by Jesus words before his death since he spoke during the Mosaic law.

The sermon on the mount is not a gospel but the way of life.

He is not a sign of his righteousness, he may have thought so, but he is unrighteous because he has left God out of the picture.

Dr. R. Scott Clark ( Heidelblog) has said in all three additions of John MacArthur's book "Ashamed of the Gospel, " there is law/gospel confusion.
Jon and have said that Jesus is the greatest preacher of the law in the Sermon on the Mount. John Macarthur calls the Sermon on the Mount the greatest evangelistic sermon. Jesus is preaching His gospel. Let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and Follow Me. That is the very core of Jesus' gospel message. ( The Gospel In Perspective. Nov. 24, 2002)

Just read the Bible 'fully' not just bits and pieces otherwise His Truth is muddied. When you love Jesus you will want to do His will, read the book of John, and when you get ch 14 Jesus states this. To push a narrative to make it seem like it is a salvation issue is misleading at best. It's simply Love that compels one to follow His commandments. Some seem to have difficulty understanding what Love is...I pray for their awakening, it's a beautiful relationship with Jesus when it is 'real'<3

You must believe in the one true God. Not allah or the mormon god or the JW god or even the catholic god.
