In this video, I am answering questions about job probation and how to pass it. If you want to know answers like what is the typical length of a probation period, can you quit your job while on probation, can you change teams while on probation, can you be fired while on probation, can you take sick leave or vacation while on probation, should you tell your boss or recruiter that you are going to be on maternity leave soon being pregnant during the interview, should you repay your relocation allowance paid by the employer if you don't pass your work probation or should you expect an automatic salary raise after your probation ends.
Say hi to these TIMESTAMPS and to me too ✌️:
00:00 Common probation questions
00:47 Probation lengths
1:39 Probation in the United States
3:19 Can your manager put you back on probation?
4:20 Tackling personal issues on probation
5:12 Should you expect a pay raise after
6:01 Probation in the United States (continued)
6:56 Pregnant while on probation (Maternity, Paternity leaves)
9:11 Your employee rights while on probation
9:44 A very cool ending
The probation period at work may differ and depends on the country or state you are employed with. For example, in the United States, the length of a probationary period depends on what the employer and employee agree to. Most US employees, however, work under the "at will" principle, which means they can quit at any time. The only state where this is not the case in Montana, where the default probationary period is six months from the date of hire.
Because employment in the US is at will, you can quit your job if you find a better alternative somewhere else or if you were job hunting and were waiting for a job offer from your preferred employer, who might be slower than the current employer to hire you, you are still free to join and leave your current employer.
Employees on probation enjoy all statutory employment rights. This means that they are entitled to the federal minimum wage, time off, statutory sick pay, family-related leaves, and notice if their job is going to be terminated after the probation. And the last but not least, if your boss wants to terminate you before the end of probation due to bad performance, it is possible but with due pay.
