Beyond meat and the impossible burger blew up in 2019
The beyond stocks were beyond hot
There’s a general idea that these imitation meats must be healthier since they’re made from plants
but does that really pan out?
even if you’ve been living under a rock you’ve heard of beyond meats and the impossible burger
a study from the Univ of Michigan concluded the Beyond burger generates 90% less greenhouse gas emissions than beef, it requires less energy, less than 1% of the water and 93% less land
this study was commissioned by beyond meats so we can take the numbers with a grain of salt
but the 3rd reason people are excited about beyond meat and the impossible burger is the health angle
we have lots of studies on beef, what about beyond meat and the impossible?
So what all these blogs have been doing with the head to head comparison, beef vs imitation meats, is comparing nutrient composition
are the imitations better or worse than beef?
calories: the impossible and the beyond are around the same, about 250cals. Beef, 205-290
protein, 19g for the impossible, 20g for beyond. beef: 16 - 28g
saturated fat 8g for the impossible, 6 for beyond, and about 6 for beef
in the impossible they also added heme iron, leghemoglobin
The beyond on the other hand doesn’t have any heme iron
soy: impossible burger has it, the beyond doesn’t.

Just love how you emphasise on not forcing eating choices on people and not expecting people to be absolutely disciplined but rather conveying facts and suggesting a logical and an effective approach.

I could listen to you all day long. Keep making such videos. You're doing really great and my best wishes to you for all your endeavours and life in general.

Personally, as a vegan, I wasn't excited about these burgers because they are "healthy", quite the contrary, I was excited to be able to have junk food like burgers again. lol

Thanks for this awesome video! It's really important that people know about this. I don't try to eat either of these all the time, of course, but they make a wonderful treat! Thanks for the video. Your videos always inspire me to keep posting on my channel!

One of the not so commonly ocurring sane voices here on YouTube (or all media outlets for that matter). Thanks!

Great video again. Love how how you back all your claims with peer-reviewed science and that you are delivering backed-up facts and not "truths".

They are treat foods to eat every once in a while. WFP is the way to go most if not all of the time.

No super-processed foods are good for use. These imitation burgers are no exception. Love the videos - keep them up!

Great work!!! I had a ton of questions and concerns after watching ‘Game Changers’ & ‘What the Health, ’ and the more I dug for answers the more I got confused (way too much contradicting information out there). I happened to chance on your video regarding Game Changers and I loved the no frills, fact based, research backed approach and have been watching a lot of your videos for answers. You’re making a difference! Thank You!!! Now can’t wait for your soy video and then maybe I can start enjoying some cereal again or not 😀

As i focus on cutting down processed food it doesn’t make sense for me to replace meet with something with such a long ingredient list. And in addition i am always sceptic when something tastes like something that it is not. I want my food to taste as natural as possible 😎

Great video, I still like to have a beyond burger once every few months. Transitioning to a vegan diet I think these are great foods to fill a void until you are on the Whole Foods Plant Based track.

I haven’t bought ground beef in almost 2 years since these “imitation” meats came out.
Fortunately the grocery stores have them on sale often. I just bought 2 pounds (2, 1 pound packs) of beyond burger today at the store. It was buy one get one free so it was just $4 a pound which is much cheaper than the grass fed good beef I use to buy.
I feel very fortunate that I actually have a pretty rare and unique diet.
I have Crohn’s disease with all of my large intestines removed.
I’m on a high protein, high sodium diet. My sodium levels are chronically low and even have to take prescription strength potassium chloride pills daily. I’m supposed to consume as much salt as I reasonably can. I’m supposed to drink sports drinks vs water even.
Anyways I love these burgers and so glad the cost has come down, availability is high, and it’s way less negative impact on the environment. Not to mention I’ve never liked the idea of slaughtering animals in mass amounts like we do these days. Raising them miserably in tiny area’s. It’s friggin inhuman. Especially I’ve seen it with chickens laying eggs.
I actually spend around $6 for a dozen eggs (vs $2 for cheap eggs) to make sure the chickens are actually raised in a pasture free range.

So I am going to tell you my story. I am 44 years old and I had high cholesterol, high triglycerides, IBS, high blood pressure and taking meds, pre diabetes, and ED. I stopped eating meat, eggs, and milk. I eat a lot of these fake meats and now all of my top ailments are gone and now it is perfect. So I can tell you that it is healthier than meat. Oh and still eat cheese so that is the only dairy I eat.

Excellent video. I felt you were transparent and non biased with your focus being nutritional education.

I'm not a big fan of processed veg food, but honestly once or twice a year I would love to eat one of these burgers.

I'm looking forward for the soy video!

Your fun to watch! Thank you. I'm a new diabetic (yes.. new. lol) And I just ate the Impossible from BK. I got kinda scared so I decided to research on You tube. Your video was the most fun video of all the vids I watched today on this subject. Thank you. You got a sub!

I’m grateful for this side-to-side breakdown and comparison. Having shifted to predominantly whole food plant based eating, I do enjoy the occasional Beyond Beef or Impossible Burger. Recent diagnosis of hypertension with troublingly high APOb &—so high LDL obviously, saturated fat is something I’m very much avoiding. I was suspicious about the overall nutritional composition of these meat mimicking burgers compared to homemade plant based burgers…this clarification of saturated fat source and amount across the three options leaves all 3 off my personal safe foods list. Pity the plant burgers went with coconut oil. Thanks for reducing my squinting over fine print ingredients labelling!

I can't wait for that soy video, I recently stopped drinking cow's milk (I use it everyday in smoothies) and I've started using soy milk instead after a little research
