Younger folk might not realize just how groundbreaking this was when it came out. Nobody had ever seen anything like it. I can still remember how it felt to watch this for the first time

I watched The Matrix at the cinema, on my own, in 1999. I was 27 and as I walked out of the theatre and into the street I felt that I was completely immersed on my own awakening. Completely blew my mind and made me fundamentally changed the way I viewed the world and everything in it.

Since I’m french, I’am more used to french dubbing to watch movies, and gosh, I just discovered how deep and pleasant is the voice of Mr Fishburn 🤩
Cheers from France

1999…still plays like it was made yesterday. Timeless classic. It’s maturing so well.

I perfectly remember the day I watched The Matrix in a theater in 1999 when I was 18 years old. At the end of the movie I said " WOW!" It just blew my mind. And since that day, I've watched this movie dozens of times at home.

Man.. this brings back so many memories.. that 1st scene of Trinity levitating in the air with arms spread out like an eagle and the 360 deg camera shot was absolute goosebumps back then..

Watching this movie for the first time back in 1999 was one the the most epic moments in cinema history.

This movie changed my life. My dad, an immigrant from Syria who loved sci-fi, introduced me to incredible movies like The Matrix. When I was about 8, he took me to see the Star Wars remakes in theaters, and I remember how excited he was to buy a big-screen TV with 'surround sound' when it was brand-new technology. Watching The Matrix on DVD with him was unforgettable. It wasn’t just about the movie—it was about how he shared his passion for storytelling, technology, and imagination with me. It’s a memory I’ll cherish forever.

One of the things that film did so well (and it did a LOT of things really well), was (at least for me) establishing the threat of the Agents, without actually showing us them being terrifying. We open with Trinity in the room with the cops. Where she easily, and casually just obliterates that entire squad of cops. And not just does it easily, but does it in a way that clearly tells the audience "there is more going on here. This isn't a normal situation" Then she gets right back on the phone, and when she hears there are Agents, then we see HER, this badass woman who drops cops like an afterthought, showing the first signs of fear. Then they compound that sense of dread, by having her run away from the Agent on the rooftops. And again, we see her defy the laws of physics, and go diving across this huge gap, threading the needle of this tiny window, tumbling and diving down a flight of stairs, and what is her immediate reaction? To turn around and instantly draw her weapons, because she's CERTAIN that the Agent is right behind her. We see her trembling with fear, panting, guns shaking in her grasp. This woman who is so far, the most terrifying thing on screen, is PETRIFIED by the Agent behind her. To me, that was just a fantastic bit of show don't tell for establishing the overarching threat and dread that the Agents represented.

I remember on a whim I took a bus to the mall & walked by the theater & saw the poster for The Matrix. I didnt know anything about it. Never saw a preview on tv or trailer. Bought a ticket, went in totally blind, & man I was just blown away. Great film.

I met Lawrence Fishburn in 99 standing in lane to got the bathroom at the Broadway showing of Sam Mendes’ Cabaret. He was in full Morpheus mode. Shaved head. Sunglasses. Trench coat. The whole get up. I was staring at the back of his head. He spun on his heels and faced me. “Are you Lawrence Fishburn?” He put his hands together 🙏 in praying style and said, “Yes I am. Who are you?” And extended his hand out to shake mine. I was 20 years old and he blew my mind.

I got my first HD TV in 1999 and the first DVD I ever played was “The Matrix”. Still rocking in my much larger home theater.
