Great point. To add to that, let's not forget the shortcomings of the accuser. Any time an accusation is thrown out, the spotlight is so often taken off of the one making the accusation. Accusers tend to be very self righteous.

Yeah, this is true. It is never the fault of such a broad and diverse group of people for the actions of one individual who is a member of that group.

Now, there are some groups out there that encourage harmful actions and beliefs and that includes some explicitly Christian groups.

It's very apparent that Christian beliefs can be used for good or for evil depending on who is interpreting scripture.

I like the analogy and want to extend it. What should you do if you never heard the original band because they never recorded their music. All you have is a compilation of covers (some of which may actually be misattributed to the original band). I can't blame the original artist for later interpretations, but how can I know if the originals were actually any good?

...if you stand in a garage and go "Beep! Beep!", it doesn't make you a car anymore than a person sitting in a pew and going "Amen!", then living like the enemy's first cousin the rest of the time, makes a person a Christian.
