Honestly the woodland camouflage on top of the desert looks kinda clean.

To Quote what Lieutenant Nathan Fick Said in Generation Kill:

"You want logistics, join the army. Marines make do"

Bro, this wasn’t even the worst part. We had barely working iron site M16s, non-armored and canvas top and side humvees. What a time to have been in the army! I don’t regret a second of my first deployment 2003-2004!

3-Color Desert camo already goes hard enough on its own

It's clean. Pattern/pattern contrast colors. Closest we'll get to looking as cool as the Hugo Boss bad guys lol.

I had been enlisted about 9 months when we switched to UCP. They managed to get us UCP IBAs and helmet covers through the rapid fielding initiative (RFI), but our FLC was in desert camo. We kept the ALICE ruck, no desert MOLLE II ruck. For whatever reason, one of our guys wasn't issued desert boots, so he deployed to Afghanistan with black boots (and his helmet cover was woodland). Then OCP happens years later and you see NG units with woodland ELBVs and UCP IBAs. The military practices chaos on a daily basis, and this is definitely a microcosm of that

Brit here, same for us. Green DPM for Iraq war in March 2003, issued nice new desert cam in july aug...to fly home in. Wouldnt want to upset the taxpaying patriotic public.
Loving belly rig 😊

As someone who was in the Army in the 90's I miss the woodland camo BDUs

As a kid of the 90's, seeing U.S troops in the Gulf War on T.V in post war footage was the quintessential U.S look in my mind for years before I learned of WW2 and Vietnam. It is just a fantastic look that will forever have a place in my heart.

The absolute supremacy of the M81 pattern

The mix of woodland with desert cammo patterns was actually perfect for the terrain in Iraq. Only the south was open desert. The farther into the country we got there was lots of veg. Iraq was the cradle of civilization. It was a lot more green than people realize. That mix blended in quite well.

It might be impractical in a camo sense, but the M81 over the DCU makes a nice breakup and goes well with the nomex gloves. Best military uniform imo

Greg do another video explaining why the desert tricolor and m81 woodland pattern combo was effective

I still have my woodland iba cover from oif 3, they didnt want it back when I ETSed, 3rd BCT/1AD at Camp Taji. We we were the only ones over there with woodland covers at that time, but we had the tri-color MOLLE lbe kit. Rumsfeld came to visit about half way through our deployment, and asked our full bird why we were the only ones like that when everyone had already replaced theirs a long time ago. 2 weeks later, every one got a brand new shiny, new tri-color iba vest cover.

It took the SECDEF of the U.S. asking a full bird colonel point blank to make wheels turn for a basic bit of equipment.

My uncle wore a mix of chocolate chip and woodland in the Gulf War. The old photos of him kitted up with an old M16A2 go hard af🔥

I wasn’t in the military but my mom was. Woodland camo has a special place in my heart because that’s what was around for a while until the digital camo came around. Nowadays, I buy clothing and stuff that have woodland camo
