This is fantastic. I worked in radio for 25 years and got this exact advice from respected Program Directors in major markets. ESPECIALLY addressing the audience as individuals and not "guys", bullet points rather than scripts, talking through a smile and gesture to punctuate your words. All we had was audio, but good practices in broadcasting apply to all platforms.

Practice Practice Practice, i vlog every where i go, walmart, the grocery store, hiking, i rarely use this footage but helps me get comfortable talking to the camera and doing it in crowds, people do stare but that’s ok, sometimes people recognize me an stop and say hi, that’s ok too. The more i practice, when i sit down to do a talking head, i look into the camera better and look much more relaxed and comfortable like im just talking to a friend on teh couch. Practice is the only way to get better in crowds. When i set up my tripod to film doing self checkout at walmart, while talking to camera, people watch, and are like, what a narcissistic weirdo, but that ok too, this is the world we live in. And by the way, im 60 years old. Old dogs can learn new tricks, haha.. great video, lots of great tips, but i think everyone can improve their on camera personality and delivery to make it more entertaining. Forget about analytics, just make better videos, be more engaging and entertaining. Some people are naturals, im not at all, it has taken 4 years of weekly videos to improve a little be with each one. Love this topic. Larry

Something that has helped me quite a lot is sharing my webcam with homies on Discord while we chat in VC. Also sending video messages in the DMs instead of just typing it all out has helped immensely.

Great advice! What helped me the most in becoming comfortable talking to my weird one-eyed friend was live streaming. If you hang out in front a camera talking to actual people behind the camera as in a live stream then when you switch to a standard shoot it's easier to imagine a human behind the lens.

From now on, I'm referring to my camera as my "ONE EYED FRIEND"😅😅😅
Man, thanks for this video

Funny thing is I got cast for a movie recently for a major role as a gritty detective in a horror/ comedy film....during the table read the director asked me to bring it down a notch...why? Because I'm so used to doing YouTube and being that energetic persona. I think his direct quote was..."you sound more like the victims best friend than a gritty detective." LOL. Thanks for the pointers Sean. Rock on!

Thanks for the video, mate. Those are some really helpful tips. But it's like, the harder I try, the worse I get. I guess I just need to chill out a bit, huh? 😊

Great video.

"When you're speaking with friends, you don't need to stop, pause, stutter, and think." Aw man, yes I do.

I've suggested to new creators to get in the habit of recording the formalities and simple editing them out in post. It's helpful to get it off their chest and continue. Some people are just setting up the stage for talking points but most don't understand editing is where the magic happens. ❤👍

Thanks great words.
I'm just getting started on my journey. And I am relatively comfortable speaking in front of groups of people but for some reason the camera is much harder. Your words were all very helpful thank you

I want to come back and say THANK YOU! I followed your advice and finally got over my fear of talking into the camera; I need to keep practicing so I'm not stiff, but I can't believe how much it helped!

I published my first YTube video two days ago after procrastinating for 2 years. Yay!

It's amazing how the algorithm shows us stuff that we need to see. Been getting my channel back online after a bit of a hiatus, and these are great points. I can see myself in a teleprompter (like a mirror) which helps me, but I think I've been using a bit too much energy at the intro. I definitely hadn't realized that, in itself, is a nervousness thing. Appreciate it! 🤙

THANK YOU! I absolutely hate when people start their videos with “hey guys!” 😩😩
It should always be as though you’re taking to a friend… not a group!
Cheers!

Thank god someone telling YouTubers that they don’t all have to be the same. I scrolled im right past the one telling everyone how to make a thumbnail… exactly like everyone’s. Same with titles. I’ve never seen a time with so many very very creative people racing to be the same.

Love all of your videos but it this one helped the most. Haven’t done this but I’ve thought of printing out a face of Bill Murray and putting the print near the lens of the camera to help me relax and remember to act like I’m talking to a human.
