Y'know if you think about it, the king probably knew that Link was going to be the wielder of the Master Sword. He was about the same age as Zelda and he was already extremely skilled with a sword. If I was a king looking for a wielder, my neck would immediately snap in his direction and tell him some excuse to get him in the korok forest just to find out.
