How to Fake Your Way to a Nobel Prize

Winning a Nobel Prize is an honor few can hope to achieve in their lifetime. Since 1901, only about one thousand people have won an award, in the areas of chemistry, physics, literature, peace, and economics. But this video isn’t about any of them. It’s about a man who fooled the entire world into thinking he was a scientific genius, and nearly stole the world’s most prestigious award. That man is Jan Hendrik Schön, the greatest con man in the history of physics.

Hey! Appreciate the tag, I always like to see other videos covering the same topics. I will say though, in addition to the video title itself, certain parts of the script of this video feel almost lifted directly from my video. The section at around 6:50 to 7:40 about Horst Stormer for instance, reads almost word for word like my video (40:14 of part 1).

That kind of sums up how the scientific community works right now with all these magazines and whatnot. People keep cooking up data and torturing them to prove their point. If he kept a lower profile he would have gotten away with it probably.... It's sad how many papers don't get scrutinized before being published...

The bit about University of Konstanz is wrong. While it is a good university, it is most definitely not considered the "sole ivy league college". Firstly, Germany does not have anything like the Ivy League - there are "excellence universities" (Konstanz is one of several more) but admission for most degrees (especially physics) is not particularly competitive (the German concept is to let everybody in and then select by making exams hard). Secondly, even considering there is no German Ivy League, Konstanz is likely not the most prestigious university in Germany. That title would probably go to Munich.
