Saiyan biology also allows them to eat pretty much any organic material; they have preferences of course but they're known for eating the dead during war campaigns as they conquered other planets.
Rations would be a logistic nightmare, so eating slain enemies just makes sense (Goku got a taste for this tactic during the Frieza fight).
