This BYD - Uber partnership is a game changer to increase EV adoption. Great news!

Hi, I'm in the UK. The other day I was at a Hertz car rental site and the yard was full of BYD Atto 3's and quite a few Kia e Niro's. When I ask who they were intended for I was told Uber drivers in London.

With decades of experience in Shenzen and a greater region with a bigger population and economy than Canada or Australia, with Taxis/rideshare they know what they're doing.

the cost of the driver is around 30%, 30% goes to uber and around 40% for gas, maintenance and depreciation. I do uber

By the way, BYDs are already widely used at taxis in many Chinese cities. Also, In some countries where charging infrastructure is lacking, Uber drivers might prefer hybrids over BEVs

This is a failure of Teslas RoboTaxi strategy as much as a BYD success story.

I wonder how many BYDs does Sixt have by now. The company has ordered 250.000. But I cannot find any information about how many they have right now.

Thanks 🙏🏽 Electric Viking ⚡️

Brilliant ‼️
So BYD is going to “launder” their EVs through a company equipment purchase and get BYD products on USA roads NOT through a consumer purchase but a B2B angle.

Thanks 🙏🏽 AGAIN

They approached Tesla first. I don't get why the deal didn't go through.

This is not epic at all. Its 100k cars across many years and over both Europe and Latin America. And its about getting discounts for Uber drivers to buy BYD cars but they dont have to. Keep in mind, Uber doesnt own a car fleet, its the drivers who have to buy their own cars.

Tesla has a similar deal where they offer discounts to Uber drivers if they buy their cars.

This has been analyzed by other EV channels in more detail. Its just two struggling companies trying to announce something together. Uber knows they are screwed when Tesla rolls out FSD. BYD knows they are screwed because they havent done anything to develop their own FSD system. If BYD wants to remain relevant, they should license FSD from Tesla.

Also, BYD cars are not equipped with autonomous driving tech such as cameras so they are not collecting any data anyway and without data, good luck developing any FSD technology. It wasnt that long ago that the CEO of BYD also said that FSD is a waste of time. They are now stating they will invest some $13bn in FSD over the coming years but they are likely too far behind because of the data issue.

GREAT news for BYD, but...I hope the Robo taxi revolution doesn't take off in my lifetime, since it spells the beginning of the end for anyone wanting to own and drive a car personally (insurance costs will skyrocket, making it a privilege for the rich only) as you will be the biggest risk on the road, as software can't predict what you will/won't do in any given situation!

In Australia if there is no idling there is no airconditioning inside. In an EV there would be drain on the battery, or get bloody hot inside while waiting for a customer. Maybe someone should invent external non connect chargers for installation at taxi ranks and commercial vehicle loading areas and bus stops. Or even underground aircon units that connect and disconnect automatically with taxis and busses static above them.

Uber partnering with UBER, that’s gotta Hertz!

The Ford Model-T did cost around US$850 in 1908. Using historical inflation data, US$850 in 1908 is roughly equivalent to about US$29, 000 to US$30, 000 in 2024.

The Model T did cost around US$260 in 1924. Compared to 2024 these US$260 are equivalent to today's US$4, 500 to US$5, 000.

BEV prices will plummet equivalently. And with Robotaxis coming and automation/robotics and AI increasing you will pay even less overall.

Sam more fake news. In Australia the majority of taxis are hybrids. The engine shuts down when it stops. Its starts on electric.

This is scary in two ways. 1st.: UBER almost disapears with "normal taxi drivers"; 2nd.: Achieving "Autonomous driving level 5" regulations, for example in EU, will be almost impossible... Maybe RoboTaxi will be working well in next decade folks !! 😅 In US, Canadá or Australia will be different but ...

BYD doesn’t have autonomous tech that rivals Tesla. How exactly are they going to have fleets of their own robotaxis?

What, no Tesla partnership with their FSD and robo-taxi promises. I wonder why?
