TESTING OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCES - Thomas Campbell #27

How can out of body experiences be explained? What theory of reality could accomodate such a phenomenon?

Today we have the extraordinary topic of the science and physics of Out of Body Experiences to get our head around! Many brain scientists have reduced this common experience to a mix of physiological and brain chemical effects, maintaining that no perceiving consciousness actually leaves the body, rather it is a form of hallucination and distortion of body schema. Not knowing when these experiences will spontaneously occur has made them hard to study in the lab.

However, certain researchers have developed a method for inducing the experience, allowing for deeper study. Following that study some new theories of reality have developed that could include such an experience and even others like Near Death Experience or NDE, and Controlled Remote Viewing which we’re evaluating in this second series.

One such scientist is our guest today physicist Dr. Tom Campbell! He’s an experimental physicist who’s worked for over 20 years developing US missile systems for the Department of Defence, specialising in developing cutting edge technology, large-system simulation, technology development and integration, and complex system vulnerability and risk analysis.
He began researching altered states of consciousness with Bob Monroe at Monroe Laboratories in the early 1970s. He helped design experiments and develop the Binaural Beats technology for creating specific altered states, and became an experienced test subject and trainer too. After many years studying consciousness, and out of body experiences he wrote the book ‘My Big TOE’, as in ‘Theory of Everything’, which describes his model of existence and reality from both the physical and metaphysical points of view.

I'm in my late 70's now and have always had faith in the paranormal, including astral projection, the name l have always used for OBE's. When l was fifteen l was visiting my maternal grandfather. I was there with my younger sister and brother. Later in the day our mother arrived and we sat watching TV while my grandfather was making supper in the kitchen, it was winter on a November evening and the gas fire in the room was on. Suddenly, there was a noticeable drop in temperature and everyone remarked on this. My Mother's sister, who was unmarried and lived with her father, tried to turn the gas fire a little higher, That's strange, she said, the gas is already set high. At that moment there came three very loud raps upon the room window. Everyone yelled at once - what was that! My aunt pulled back one the curtains to peer out, There's no one there, she said. The strange thing was that the house had a very high privet hedge around it and the window was impossible to reach by anyone passing on the street. Grandfather was informed and he got riled up, grabbed a walking stick and went outside to check, he soon returned, saying There is no one there. We all settled down again and once again the room went very cold. The three loud raps came again, only this time they emanated from the ceiling. Grandfather was informed again and he grabbed his stick and ran upstairs. My aunt was muttering that someone must have sneaked in behind him, when he came back in previously, and this "intruder" was now upstairs, grandfather returned and said There is no one there. Nothing happened again and we returned home. Later in the week l knew there was more to this event than any of the adults would admit. By eavesdropping on my parents discussing the incident, It transpired that my grandfather had an elder brother living in another part of the city and they were estranged and had not spoken for years. This great uncle of mine was apparently in hospital, on his deathbed and before he passed away he had been calling out for my grandfather and asking nurses to put him in touch. I put two and two together and realised that my great uncle had travelled via his astral form to visit my grandfather. Many years later l asked my now elderly mother about the event, but she was an old fashioned, God fearing lady and denied the strange evening had ever occurred. The memory has stayed with me forever as l firmly believe in such things and l have never been a God fearing man.

A funny part of the talk was when Tom said he'd "just go over the double split for 30 seconds and make it real quick." I was listening to this 10, 000 and 528 hertz on YouTube because it claimed it helped shrink tumor. I listened consistently with my phone in my sleep. In the beginning I sleep calmly but one morning after my kids left for school. I had an OBE. Staring at my own body sleeping freaked me out. I floated in my room out my house to the outer space. It was an amazing journey but my fear lead me back to my room. Saw myself again sleeping before waking up

It was so mind boggling and impossible that I have visited the spot where it happened several times just to confirm that there isn't room for more than one car where it happened.
