This pencil technique might do the trick.

When I was taught drafting the best advice I was given is to rotate your pencil as you draw lines in order to keep your pencil even and prevent damage to the paper.

Or you can grab it closer toward the top, this extended the length of the pencil over the paper, and allowing you that angle
