How to inspect and replace a FSI HPFP and Cam Follower on a MK5 GTI. The high pressure fuel pump and cam follower is a common MK5 FSI failure. Checking the cam follower is basically maintenance. Also failure can cause check engine light codes P0087, P1093, P2293. Today I will show you step by step how to DIY the FSI fuel pump and cam follower. Thanks to FCP EURO and Meyle for sponsoring the MK5 Rusto-Mod project.

This might be one of the common mk5 repairs in history.

I love the detail you give including the torque specs. Great video.

Thankfully these high pressure fuel systems are not as complex as some others. Key word is maintenance as usual. Charles, you are the man when it comes to these repairs. Thank you.

I used your other video to change out my lpfp and the revised control module WITH the coveted heat sink.. (what a concept!)
DAP had the parts for unbelievably cheap. Runs good as new and no more unhappy fuel cutoffs.
The community you guys built here is great, keep up the good work

“ this one’s pretty broken so it came off nice and easy” I think that’s about the best you can hope for as a Volkswagen mechanic😭

Always a fun job to do. I never thought about the follower being a maintenance item but good call.

With regards to the question about rotating the engine to get the cam in the right position, next time you do one of these, can you please update the video with a little clip to show exactly how you rotate the engine. Great information, but would be nice to see exactly how you do it!

"19mm socket above the alternator. Always turn clockwise."

Cheers!

That exact sensor has failed on my Mk5 GTI in the winter of 2016. After a search on eBay I found out that I had, as mentioned in the video, the old revision, with E, and I ordered the one with K from America, because somehow, no ebay vendors here in Europe had the part. Took 2 weeks to get here, but my engine ran again.

Great videos, as always. Question, does the cam follower need to be inspected / replaced on a MK6 GTI?

How did you rotate the engine to get the lobe flat?

Love this Mk5 series. I have a Mk5 gli with 170k miles and I'm about to do most of these replacements soon and I'll be referring to your videos. Also, are you goi g to be doing a timing belt/water pump replacement video? That's the only repair I'm a little worried about doing on my own.

Thanks!
