This is why I only have my boot drive connected when installing windows on a new system, you can always turn off your system after installing and running all the updates to connect other other drive

Moral of the story: install Windows (or really, any operating system) on a computer which doesn't have a hard drive and only have SSD. After installing Windows, you can install a hard drive for storage.
