In this video, I'm going to give you these situational awareness tips that you can improve.

Did you know, it wasn't until I retired from the Navy that I discovered the real secrets of how to become a better shooter?

...Years ago, when the Naval Special Warfare Command (WARCOM) selected me to develop the curriculum for the U.S. Navy SEAL Sniper training program, I was still teaching the old rules of marksmanship… This included focusing on techniques such as shooting platform, grip, sight picture, trigger control, etc.

While these are important, they aren't the secrets you need to become an expert shooter…

After years of research, I developed the New Rules of Marksmanship that has helped literally thousands of people unlock their potential to not only become a better shooter, but improve ANY skill they want. Moreover, it saves you time and money, and can be done from home!

I’m right handed and I keep my wallet and money in my left front pocket. My Father taught me this. If being robbed you reach your left hand into your pocket and 99.9 percent of the time the robber will look down at your pocket. Now’s your strong hand is ready to defend while they are distracted looking at your left pocket. I’m 62 this month with a broken back, and trust me this worked!

I have done all of these things since I was a kid. The only thing is that when I'm walking alone I daydream a lot. But these tips are really good. I have been robbed 3 times because I didn't listen to my instincts and what the situation was telling me. Stay alert, fellas.

One of the things I try to do is to go to places when they're not that busy. For instance, I may go to a restaurant at 3:00pm instead of 5:00pm, if I have to go to a store like WalMart ( which I try to avoid ) I'll go as soon as they open in the morning when it's less busy. Most of the time I prefer to shop at little mom & pop stores, rather than big box stores that are crowded. And I avoid big crowds like sports games, or concerts etc.

My problem is that I am situationally aware, and people think I'm paranoid. I do the whole noting who is around me, what they are doing, how long they are there, where the exits of a building are, pepper spray in-hand, dog, and gun with me when possible, avoid ambush cover, etc.. I'm 4'9",
60 y/o, female, go anywhere I want, and never been attacked, so I guess it's working.🤣

That was a great video. I used to take the train to a very bad part of the city I worked in and then walk just shy of 2 miles each way. High crime in the area around train station and the workplace, lots of drugs, etc. Did it for 5+ years, sometimes not leaving until 7 or 8 in the evening. And when I would talk to people about it when asked they thought I was a little weird with the daily mental exercises I would go through from the minute I got on the train until I got to work and vice versa. In that time I never carried a weapon of any sort, and can say I had interesting encounters with either individuals or groups usually in the evening hours, but because I had the awareness of the surroundings and knew how long it took to cover certain distances I felt safe as long as I stayed focused. One of the biggest lessons learned was, especially with a group moving towards my "bubble", was constant eye contact - letting them know that you are aware that they are there and I guess having a silent conversation with just the eyes. It was also a great opportunity, to do both, the people watching and the auditory visualization while on the train. Thank you for reinforcing that the things I was doing were the correct. I feel because I made myself go through those daily exercises it kept me confident and safe.

Love these videos. They would be even better if you added a short written summary at the bottom of the video so we can easily review what we have learned. Thank you very much! You are an awesome trainer.

4:16 You would probably get a kick, and maybe draw some enjoyment from Demon Slayer & Baki (Both On Netflix) (The 2nd one). In Baki's case the first episode of sure, in Demon Slayer's case; the main character Tanjiro's sense of smell! Thanks for the great info :)! Wishing ya a phenomenal year!

This is wonderful. I just wrote an article about situational awareness. (I'm a content writer) but additionally, as widow alone in a city, this can up my game in staying safe.

Taught my son how to smell an angry or distressed animal. He's a great kid on the trail, he has great eyes, but that's something that never even occurred to him.

If upon entering a restaurant, per the fire code, you will see a posted occupancy load; if it’s more than 49, there must be two clearly marked exits that lead to a public way. Know this: most people will exit through the same door that they used for entry. I always look for the second exit (if required). Assembly areas, depending on occupancy load, may have three exits or more. Look for clear passageways to those exits, and follow all the way to a public way (sidewalk or street).

Excellent content and presentation, Chris, so it is easy to absorb the material, thanks! Being highly active in a variety of pursuits in addition to self defense, I was surprised that for me bird watching (in a variety of habitats and hazards) ranked no. 1 for using the skill set you recommended for situational awareness (1. bird watching, 2. ballroom dancing, 3. bow hunting whitetails, 4. trail running, 5. technical rock climbing, ...). Ballroom dancing almost ties for no. 1. Skilled dancers can waltz for hours around a crowded dance floor never bumping into or cutting off another couple.

I'm saving this video. I was trained in the Marine Corps with the OODA loop that you mentioned, but I like your version better. I had a near-death experience in a 6 vehicle motorcycle collision. Ever since that accident, I've been so unable to maintain focus on my external world. This video will work as a great reference point to retrain my brain.

This video had several funny touches to it. It also had A LOT of excellent advice.

It looks like the word orientated is British English.

I learned OODA as Observe - Orient - Decide - Act. This sequence is repeated as time progresses.
