The male gaze: visual pleasure, sexualised scenes of women. The active male and the passive female.
The female gaze: focuses on emotions, psychological character depth, interpersonal relationships.

The legally blonde scene is a perfect example of something that IS NOT the male gaze.

i don't think the Easy A scene belongs here, you should watch the entire movie to understand the scene. She (the caracter) it's doin' it in purpose.

Isn't male gaze theory the idea that women are sexualized when there's no plot reason to do so? For example, scene: the camera lingers on the actress's body while she tries to sell him insurance.

The legally blonde scene actually is just an example of ‘female gaze’ because it shows female empowerment, some of these examples are debatable...

Can someone name the films? This is great for my Media coursework, I'm doing a teen film.

The male gaze and female gaze aren't mutually exclusive. I like French movies. French movies are a lot more likely than American movies to be directed by women (the "female gaze"). But the young French actresses who play "teens", unlike the American actresses, have absolutely no compunction about doing, often pretty graphic, nude scenes. So that's the "male gaze" I guess. But I can also tell you the females in French teen movies are also about 1000 percent more believable as human beings than horndog male stereotypes in American movies (the males are not appreciably less cardboard than the "objectified" American actresses). So it's little more complicated than people make it out to be.

I have a few problems with the male gaze theory, first of all the theory says that every type/kind of media objectifies woman for no reason what so ever, in multiple examples that you showed, it is there for a comedic reason or to show how the character is at a higher power then the rest of the characters. My other problem is that the theory goes both ways, take '17 again', which is ironically loved by most women I know but very very few men, this film sexualises Zac Efron a lot for the exact same point.

I believe the way men see women should be in movies. In reality men are looking at beautiful women, so why not in movies? Besides this lately I saw a movie and I thought this must be a male director but it
